A splendid brass chair with a higher back, in the Chiavari style with ‘batwing’ gothic pattern. This particular specimen is in excellent condition, with a lovely recent restoration of the upholstery, well cushioned, in a tasteful dark green velvet. The chair is in very sound condition and is of a higher quality than others we have handled - notably the shaping of the feet and the back are particularly fine. A sturdy and elegant chair. A splendid brass Chiavari style chair with elegant arched back. This particular specimen is in very good condition, with a recent restoration of the upholstery, well cushioned, in a tasteful dark green velvet. There are a couple of marks on the velvet, not stains but changes in the nap of the velvet, probably caused by stain removal. These are minor and in clean condition. Brushing the velvet to change the nap makes these largely invisible or unnoticeable. The chair is in very sound condition and is of a higher quality than others we have handled - notably the shaping of the feet and back and the strength of the frame indicate particularly good quality. The original version of the Chiavari chair was a delicate-boned creature in light-weight timber, designed to be both light and strong. It’s turned timber frame gave the opportunity for elaborate decoration which was popular in the mid to late 1800s. This brass version was created in the 1950s as a playful reference to the original, the brass emphasising the elaborate framework. It’s intended as a decorative chair for hallways, as a bedside chair, or can be used as a feature chair...
