English Snow covered Winter Landscape with people by a house, rising Sun
Located in Woodbury, CT
Peter has an absolute love of oil painting and especially admires the masters of Dutch Painting of the 17th Century, which is reflected in his own work. Since 1995, after seeing the work of Estonian artist Olav Maran, Peter decided to review his paintings and started researching ‘Still Life’ painters such as Willem Kalf and De Heem. After experimenting with priming his own panels and canvases with different colours, then painting with thick and thin paint and glazing on top, in the way of the old masters, he has developed a style with detail and atmosphere that is essential in his portrayal of fine wine, fruit and cheeses etc.
In a quirky and sometimes conceptual world, Peter makes no apologies for producing traditional subjects where the craftsmanship is evident in every brushstroke. His paintings bring much joy and pleasure to those who understand he has an obvious and underlying love of handling paint and observing his subject using techniques that take many years to acquire. Recently he has changed the view point for some of his paintings, to give them a bold contemporary look.

19th century English River landscape with man fishing by the riverside
By David Bates b.1840
Located in Woodbury, CT
David Bates
19th century English River landscape, with fisherman by the river side.
David Bates was born in Cambridgeshire. He spent most of his early life in Worcestershire, where he became apprenticed at the Royal Worcester Porcelain Works. A painter in both oils and watercolours, Bates visited North Africa, before returning to paint landscapes mostly of Wales and Scotland. He shows the influence of Benjamin Williams Leader (1831-1923), Joseph Thors and S.H. Baker.
David Bates also made small oil sketches of hedges and plants, which were usually inscribed on the reverse. The artist’s works display considerable technical virtuosity, ranging from the serene landscape, to the uneven swagger of his later works, which were noticeably less colourful.
Although Bates was more than capable of producing refined landscapes, he was equably as capable of painting detailed...

Pietro Sansalvadore was active during the early to middle of the 20th century.
He painted in an Impressionist manner and on a small scale.
Acquiring a late 19th-century Impressionist painting of Hammersmith Bridge by the Italian painter Pietro Sansalvadore is an opportunity to own a captivating piece of art that transcends both time and cultural boundaries. Sansalvadore's unique perspective, influenced by the Impressionist movement, infuses this painting with a luminous quality that captures the atmospheric essence of Hammersmith Bridge in a way that only a skilled artist with an international perspective could achieve.
This masterpiece not only showcases the artist's mastery in capturing light and movement but also represents a harmonious fusion of Italian artistic sensibilities with the iconic English landmark. The play of colors and the subtle brushstrokes transport the viewer to the late 19th century, offering a glimpse into the allure and dynamism of that period.

Keith Arthur Johnson was born at South Pickenham, Swaffham, Norfolk in 1931, son of James Arthur Johnson (9 February 1895-1982), a farmer, and his wife Florence May née Wiles (9 May 1900-1996), who married in the Freebridge Lynn district of Norfolk in 1927 and in 1939 were living at Manor Farm, Tottenhill, Downham, Norfolk. Keith painted from an early age and after attending Fakenham Grammar School, he attended Norwich School of Art from 1946, where apart from general studies, he specialized in fabric design which heightened his color awareness and composition sense. His studies were interrupted by National Service in the RAF after which studied for teacher training at Liverpool School of Art obtaining a National Diploma in Design and an Art Teachers Diploma, also studying various printing methods and Art History attached to Liverpool University. Keith returned to Norwich School of Art for more studies, including life classes and portrait painting and from 1951 went to Lowestoft Art School to lecture in Design classes and teach fabric design, including weaving. 20th Century Oil painting, a View of Chinese Junks at sea.
By Ken Moroney
Located in Woodbury, CT
20th Century Oil painting of an Impressionist scene of Chinese Junks at sea.
Moroney was born on the 14th of February 1949 in South London. Of Anglo Irish parentage, his father was typical of his generation and worried about Ken’s artistic temperament which he viewed as effeminate. As a result, Ken took up boxing and won a gold medal for South London in his teens. His art continued to flourish with his trademark striking use of color. His main medium oils and he favors romantic subjects of Edwardian times. Ken has traveled extensively and spent 2 years working for major galleries in New York. The Royal Academy nominated him in 1976 as being one of the few promising young artists to emerge this century: "Ken Moroney has considerable talent, any painting purchased now can only be seen as a sound long term investment."
Ken Moroney's work now hangs in many important collections and has had paintings exhibited at The Royal Academy (London), and the Kline Galleries (Canada).
The painting came from a private collection and previously came from Duncan Miller...
