Born in 1908, Sylvia Spicuzza was the daughter of noted painter Francesco Spicuzza. Sylvia devoted herself to teaching art to the students of Lake Bluff Elementary School in Shorewood, WI. During this time Sylvia produced a magnificent body of work that was undiscovered until her death. Sylvia's work is rich, diverse and fascinating collection of drawings, watercolors and prints from the 1920's to the 1990's. Her style ranges from early figurative drawings to regionalism, Art Deco, lyrical abstractions of every conceivable subject (both real and imagined), as well as figurative paintings that reflect the work of Picasso, Kandinsky and Max Ernst in the 1930's and 1940's. Biomorphic and organic, Modernist images are presented with Sylvia Spicuzza's own unique sense of style, humor and fantasy.

Here, the artist has taken one of his most iconic and popular silkscreens "Everything is Shit Except You Love", and added unique, original drawings and text annotations - telling a charming and unique story ideal for any couple's bedroom, living room or dining room. This drawing depicts the image of a pencil, in the midst of writing, with the text "How we met is our story" - and an image of coffee and croissants. There are also stacks of $$ bills, with the commentary "it all evens out", and perhaps most charmingly, the artist has numbered the work 2/50 -- then corrected it to number 2/100, with the annotation "Sorry, wrong number."
So, while the published edition of this work is 2/100, the epiphanies, drawings, and text commentary make it entirely unique - and quite romantic too.
About Stephen Powers
A Fulbright scholar who has been awarded many public commissions and exhibited in major institutions like the Brooklyn Museum.... Born and raised in Philadelphia’s Overbrook neighborhood, Stephen Powers (b. 1968, Philadelphia) moved to New York in 1994, where he gained attention as the publisher of On the Go magazine and the author of the graffiti history The Art of Getting Over. In 1997, Powers undertook an ambitious and far-reaching graffiti campaign of his own, using the official-sounding acronym ESPO (Exterior Surface Painting Outreach) to deflect attention from the illegality of his activities. By 1999, he had covered dozens of storefront grates with giant silver block lettering. Powers gave up street graffiti the following year to concentrate on studio-based projects.
Powers’s work typically fuses word and image in paintings and graphics that evoke the bright look of a handmade bodega and fairground...

The three impressive drawings are studies for Stroudley’s ‘Olympic Games in a Demi-Lune’. From left to right the studies depict groups of athletes practicing diving, a conversing crowd of oarsmen, hurdlers mid jump and a collection of javelin throwers. This study was created in 1930 when Stroudley practiced in the British School in Rome. There are few surviving works from Stroudley’s short stay in Rome, with the compositions from his Rome period being among the last wholly successful decorative cycles produced by a Rome Scholar prior to World War II. Indeed, as can be seen here, his drawings from this period are technically brilliant and even bear comparison with those of Eric Kennington.
James Stroudley
Stroudley was born in London on 17 June 1906, the son of James Stroudley, showcard and ticket writer. He studied at Clapham School of Art (1923-27) and then at the Royal College of Art (1927-30), where his teachers included Alan Gwynne-Jones and William Rothenstein. As a recipient of the first Abbey Scholarship he was able to spend three years in Italy from 1930, where he absorbed the influences of Giotto and Piero della Francesca, and produced one of the last wholly satisfying decorative cycles by a Rome Scholar of the period. From 1934, he exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, and was elected to its membership in the following year.
From the Second World War – in which he worked with the Camouflage Unit – Stroudley taught at St Martin’s School of Art and was a visiting lecturer at the Royal Academy Schools. Though he continued to live in London, his later work, exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1955, indicated regular painting trips to Kent and Sussex coasts. However, much of his later work was abstract. In 1971, his former student, Peter Coker, paid homage to Stroudley by including his work in the exhibition ‘Pupil & Masters’, held at Westgate House, Long Melford, Suffolk.

Son of Alfredo Opisso y Viñas, journalist, historian and critic, and of Antonia Sala y Gil, his sister Regina Opisso, was also a writer. He comes from an enlightened family full of artists. His paternal grandfather was Josep Opisso y Roig, journalist and director of the Diari de Tarragona, father of the also writers Antonia Opisso y Viña and Antoni Opisso y Viña. His maternal great-grandfather was the painter Pere Pau Montaña, his maternal grandfather the fabulist Felipe Jacinto Sala and his maternal uncle, the painter Emilio Sala y Francés. His nephew was Arturo Llorens y Opisso, a writer better known under his pseudonym Arturo Llopis.
Although he was born in Tarragona, his family moved to Barcelona when Opisso was only two years old. She earned a M.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in English Literature and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University. She was an art critic for the Patent Trader Newspaper and the Scarsdale Inquirer, contributing editor for Arts Magazine, author of numerous catalogs including ''John Storrs'', for the Whitney Museum of American Art. For 19 years she was a faculty member at Purchase College, State University of New York.

Lowell Blair Nesbitt, painter, printmaker, draughtsman, and sculptor, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on 4 October 1933. He studied at Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Nesbitt worked in abstraction until Robert Indiana suggested in the early 1960s that he explore realism in his paintings. As subjects for his work he favored studio interiors, articles of clothing, piles of shoes, his Rottweiler, the Neo-Classical facades of 19th century cast iron buildings, and Manhattan's bridges. WILLEM OTTO WIJNAND NIEUWENKAMP
(1874-1950)
Nieuwenkamp was born on July 27th 1874 in Amsterdam. His father owned sailing ships sailing to Indonesia and hearing the stories of the returning captains evoked in the young Nieuwenkamp an obsession for distant lands and adventure. After a failed attempt by his father to have his son make a career in his business, Nieuwenkamp attended the Academy for Decorative Art in Amsterdam. However, he left within one year to go his own way.
He was an autodidact and a great experimenter with new techniques, particularly in the art of etching. Nieuwenkamp was a very focused man with the discipline of a scientist tempered by the sensitivity of an artist, a lust for adventure, a natural appreciation for ethnic arts and an enormous ambition to tread new paths.
In 1898 he visited Indonesia for the first time and on his second visit in 1903-1904 he went on to Bali and became the first foreign artist to love Bali and the Balinese with a passion. Having secured agreements with several museums in the Netherlands to obtain Balinese art and objects for their collections, Nieuwenkamp immediately started to purchase and order a wide range of ethnographic art and objects from local artists and craftsmen.
