Confidential Letter by the General of the Armies - 1920
Located in Roma, IT
Confidential Letter by the General of the Armies, John Joseph Pershing to Cecil Charles Blunt. Typewritten Letter Signed. Washington, November 16th, 1920. One page, single-sided. In English. On letterhead paper "General of the Armies Washington". Excellent condition, including original envelope. Letter of apology sent to the Count Cecil Charles Blumentahal, later changed to Blunt, a wealthy Jewish banker from New York: "I reget very much that I was unable to see you while you were in Washington". John Joseph Pershing (Laclede, 1860 - Washington, 1948) John Joseph Pershing, best-known as "Black Jack", was an American general. He distinguished himself in the Spanish-American war for his courage and after a long and brilliant career in the Philippines and Mexico against the rebels of the two countries. Pershing led the US expedition in World War I and later served as chief of staff of the United States Army. for this reason he is considered the mentor of a generation of US generals who fought in World War II such as George Marshall, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Omar Bradley, Lesley James McNair, George Smith Patton and Douglas MacArthur. Like George Washington, he was the only soldier to obtain the highest US military rank, that of General of the Armies of the United States. Pershing was one of the first generals in history to be able to coordinate light infantry with twentieth-century war inventions such as tanks and armored cars for the great offensives during the punitive expedition to Mexico against Pancho Villa...

Plan of a Part of Newport, R. I. Showing Changes... O. H. P, Belmont, Esq.
Located in New York, NY
PLAN OF A PART OF NEWPORT, R.I. SHOWING CHANGES IN HIGHWAYS ASKED FOR BY O.H.P. BELMONT, ESQ. The original ink and watercolor plan on paper from 1907. The plan is extremely large; if fully assembled it would measure no less than 11.5 feet in height and 6.5 feet in breadth. Segmented and backed on modern linen in four sections – each section is 70 x 39 inches. This grand oversized folding map can be folded down to four sections each 17.5 x 11 inches and stored in a modern made leather and marble paper case 18 x 11.75 x 3 inches. Text continues, "Prepared for Charles Warren Lippitt at the office of J. P. Cotton, C.E. Newport, R.I. Oct. 28, 1907." A fine manuscript plan of the Bellevue neighborhood of Newport, depicting the street layout and the detailed footprints of the area’s many mansions. The plan was produced at the behest of Charles Warren Lippett (1846-1924), who served as governor of Rhode Island from 1895-1897. The Lippett “Breakwater” mansion is also shown on this plan, situated at the southernmost tip of the peninsula. Though the circumstances are unclear, Lippitt seems to have requested the plan be drawn out of some concern for road construction proposed by Oliver Hazard Perry...

One page, single-sided, on letterhead paper "Italian Embassy-4, Grosnevor Square, 1". Including original envelope. Autograph Greeting Letter Signed. Two pages, single-sided. On letterhead paper "Il Ministero degli Affari esteri". From the Italian Embassy of London and from the Monistero degli Affari Esteri, the Italian diplomat, Dino Grandi writes these greeting and thank-you letters to the Countess and Patron of arts, Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt. These are hard times, during the Fascist period, as the Countess Pecci-Blunt writes in an autograph note attached "Epoca del ventennio", and how Dino Grandi refers. Dino Grandi (Mordano, 1895 - Bologna, 1988) Dino Grandi was an Italian politician and diplomat, who went down in history for the presentation of the homonymous agenda to the Grand Council of Fascism on 25 July 1943 which led to the dismissal of Benito Mussolini. He was foreign minister, minister of Grace and Justice and ambassador to London of the Kingdom of Italy.During the second post war, he was a regular consultant to the US authorities, in particular to the ambassador in Rome, Clare Boothe Luce...

Cataloging Dalì's work
Located in Roma, IT
L.T.S. (Lettre dactylographiée signée) Typewritten letter signed by Albert Field. Headed paper with double heading: in the center “The Salvador Dalì Catalog”, on the upper right “Compiler Albert Field, 20-25 29th Street, Astoria 5, N.Y.” addressed to the Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci - Blunt. Dated: 18th March 1958. One page, only front. In English. Very good conditions with usual folds in the paper and a rip on the higher left corner. Very interesting and amusing letter signed by Albert Field, the official compiler of Dalí’s work, for the Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt. A thank-you letter for her "prompt and informative reply" to the previous Field letter of the 8th March 1958. "I must play detective all the time, and of course while this irritates me as a scholar, it fascinates me at the same time". The background: The Surrealist Dalí commissioned to Albert Field the creation of his Official Catalogue of Graphic Works, a guide to the artist’s works for collectors, dealers, gallery owners and museums: an opus magnum encompassing 40 years of production and comprising 1900 illustrations, of which 1500 in color. Albert Field was Dalí’s official archivist, besides the topmost authority regarding the artist’s work, who discovered approximately 17 types of falsification, as he reported to the St. Petersburg Times in 1987. Therefore, the catalog had the function of uncovering false Dalís scattered throughout the world. Nevertheless, Dalí himself reacted to the falsification phenomenon by saying: “Someone who is subjected to forgery the way I am must really be fantastically good''. An eccentric genius like Dalí thus found a kindred spirit in Mr. Field, an English, science, and maths teacher, as well as collector of playing cards, who had a passion for nudism and rambling, and who combined all of his interests by climbing the Appalachian Trail completely naked. At the sight of “Dream of Venus...

Request for collaboration for the new publication. Having placed the seals on Leo Longanesi's Omnibus, because it was a magazine not aligned with the regime, the publisher Angelo Rizzoli devises a way not to waste the intelligence and wealth of professionalism that had made the newspaper a new way of doing journalism. He founded a new newspaper that looked at news, literature and history, namely the "Oggi", with the format and setting of the Omnibus, at the direction of which there were two new recruits: Arrigo Benedetti and Mario Pannunzio, who will become the most celebrated couple of Italian journalism. On June 3, 1939, the first issue of Oggi was published, a newspaper that will launch young writers who will reach international fame such as Elio Vittorini, Tommaso Landolfi, Ennio Flaiano, Elsa Morante...

Golden cover, unnumered pages, b/w illustrations, Excellent conditions. Sir John Gielgud 's Recital. An anthology of William Shakespeare. Selected piece from “The Ages of Man” anthology by George Rylands Sir Arthur John Gielgud (1904 – 2000) Sir Arthur Gielgud was an English actor and theatre director whose career spanned eight decades. Mixed Media Outsider Visionary Art Polaroid Photo Collage Painting 2 sided
Located in Surfside, FL
This one includes Albert Einstein amongst other drawing. Tom Carapic (born 1939), full name Tomislav Sava Čarapić, is an artist who specialises in found object artwork. He also does street art. A prominent Outsider Artist he was a featured artist in the American Visionary Art Museum's End is Near Exhibit. His work was also featured in the exhibition catalog. His work has been sold at Slotin Folk Art. Carapic was born in Velisevac, Serbia (then Kingdom of Yugoslavia). He was educated at a military school in Herzegovina in the 1950s, and served as a sergeant in the Yugoslav People's Army. Afterwards he was denied a college education, possibly because he was not a member of the Communist Party, illegally crossed into Italy in 1961, and, from there, emigrated to the United States. In 1965, he began attending classes at the New York Art Students League, but dropped out soon afterwards, eventually attending the Wilfred Academy of Beauty Culture. He was unable, however, to find steady beauty parlor employment, and worked in menial labor while attending classes in Spanish Education at Manhattan Community College. Due to a problem with accreditation, he was forced to switch to classes in the field of studio art. There he experienced hallucinatory visions that explained his repeated failures to obtain a degree. In the late 1970s, Carapic began experiencing more hallucinatory visions; claiming that his degree problems were caused when "the evil marriage bureau massed the troops" against his college and proceeded with "an Air force bombardment" of the school. After receiving other visitations, he began making and showing his art. Most of his art is centered on found objects, most famously computer keyboards, especially those by IBM. Most of his art consists of these objects, marked with black Sharpie markers, and with green thumbprints and handprints along the objects. His most famous exhibit in New York City is "Big Bang Theory," a doomsday warnings painted on computer keyboards and shoes and construction debris. Bears similarity to the Art Brut movement made famous by Jean Dubuffet. He was inluded in The End is Near! an exhibit which included an unprecedented group of noted thinkers, from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Stephen Jay Gould to Reverend Howard Finster and Apocalypse culture expert ,Adam Parfrey, visionary artists brought together by curator, Roger Manley, for an amazing exhibition at the American Visionary Art Museum, the world’s largest ever mounted on the subjects of Apocalypse, Millennium, and Utopia. The End is Near! featuredwork from the following visionary artists amongst others: William Adkins Z.B. Armstrong Bill Bruley Frank Bruno Harry Leroy Brunson Tom Carapic Pierre Carbonel Howard Finster Tim Fowler Mary Mac Franklin Victor Joseph Gatto Robert Gie Patrick Gimel Hugo Hempel Oskar Herzberg Vojislav Jakic Norbert Kox Charles Keeling Lassiter...
