About the Item

Exhibiting the bold colors and textures that her work is known for, "Softer Thoughts" is a beautiful abstract painting by Nancy Eckels. Using sculptural texture with beautiful blues and lavender contrasted with flowing textures and white and red highlights, this painting creates both a peaceful and dynamic mood. Nancy became a full time artist only after ending another creative career.  She moved to California to attend college, and happily worked in television for many years. She was a director on the CBS daytime drama, "The Bold and the Beautiful" when she decided to move on to full time painting. Given her family background, it seemed like the most natural transition she could make.  Nancy was born in Kingston, New York, but moved to Utah at age 7 when her father was transferred for his work. With her family, she spent her summers exploring many of the national parks, and natural wonders of the west where her father loved to fish and photograph. He instilled in her a love and appreciation for the beauty and colors of nature, while her mother taught her many of the lessons of art. Nancy gained quite an art education through "osmosis" while being around talented family members. She has learned much from working with several experimental abstract painters, including Katherine Chang Liu, Carole Barnes, and Pat Dews. The past 18 years her worked has been placed in homes and businesses across the country. Before she gave up the traveling life, she participated for multiple years in several of the top juried art shows in the U.S. including the La Quinta Arts Festival in the California desert, and the annual show at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in Arizona. Her mission continues. That is to continue to create special paintings that speak to her and her collectors. And she will keep applying paint to every canvas with that in mind! Nancy will be painting as long as she can hold a brush. It's a passion that will not be lost to retirement. She lives with her husband in Canyon Country, California.

It's in the rustling trees, it's in the air we breathe, it's in the songs we sing, it's in everything. I am proud of my art as it has a voice. It speaks to me, it speaks for me. It reveals my heart and my soul. I hope my art speaks to others too. That it comforts and confronts, that it challenges and questions, that it demands all and nothing. My art is my books, my music, my history and the history of others. Electric Dreams...

Mid Century Textural Color-Field Abstract in Royal Blue-Purple by Peter Witwer
By Peter Witwer
Located in Soquel, CA
Mid Century Textural Color-Field Abstract in Royal Blue-Purple by Peter Witwer A striking mid-century textural color-field abstract in a bold color palette of royal blue-purple by San Francisco artist Peter Witwer (American, 1928-1968). This highly textured mixed media piece, c.1960's, uses a monochromatic palette that is divided into two areas of varying textural depths. The lower part of the canvas verges on sculptural, as the textured surface becomes almost three-dimensional and haunting forms emerge from the abstract purple-blue plane. Unsigned. From a collection of the artist's works. Displayed in a painted wood slate frame. Frame has been painted by the artist and is considered part of the artwork. Linen size: 26"H x 22"W. Framed size: 27"H x 23"W x 1.2"D Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist's work. Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Wanting Peter’s work to finally be seen, Richard came to Lost Art Salon with Peter’s story after reading about the new gallery in a July, 2005 issue of the SF Chronicle. Born George Peter...
