Henry Maurice CAHOURS (Paris, 1889 – Vence, 1974)
He was born in Paris but spent his childhood and adolescence in Amiens, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to Paris, exposed to Salon des Indépendants and to Salon d’Automne participating actively in the very vivid artistic life of the capital. From 1930 he is partner in Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and since 1960s he is present in prestigious exhibitions abroad. His favourite subjects are landscapes, in particular Brittany, managing to grasp perfectly the atmosphere; in his works there is a constant search of the typical colour and light of those places, much to do so that a French critic defined him “the poet of light". The Gallery dedicated to him many exhibitions and monographs with general catalogue of the works.

Henry Maurice CAHOURS
French painter born in 1889 in Paris, died in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1974. Henry Maurice Cahors studied at the Beaux-Arts of Amiens, at the same time he was student at the high school. Arrived at Montmartre in 1911, he lived there until 1965, when he retired to the south of France. He frequented the microcosm of Montmartre and was friend with Marcel Aymé who wrote him a beautiful text honoring his works. Painter in the line of Marquet, in addition to the streets Montmartre he liked to represent, he had devoted himself to the Breton ocean views; he had bought, about 1955, a house at Les Petites Dalles, in Normandy, where Monet had lived in 1880. In 1976, the Museum Château de l'Emperi in Salon-de-Provence devoted a retrospective to him, then the Museum of Montmartre put him in the spotlight during a solo exhibition in 1987.

"Spring in Central Park" after Adolf Arthur Dehn, Midcentury Modern Manhattan
By Adolf Arthur Dehn
Located in Soquel, CA
A spectacular mid-century modern Manhattan figurative landscape oil painting, after the renowned artist Adolf Arthur Dehn's 1941 watercolor "Spring in Central Park", by an unknown artist (American, 20th Century). In this vibrant and expressive circa 1960 rendition of Dehn's famed painting, New Yorkers are depicted as tiny figures milling about the park in springtime, dwarfed by fluffy pink trees in bloom and the towering New York City skyline in the distance.
Unsigned.
Presented in a wood frame.
Image size: , 29"H x 36"L. Framed: 32"H x 39"W.
This painting is after the prestigious watercolor of the same title, painted in 1941 by Adolf Arthur Dehn (American, 1895 - 1968). The original piece is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It was exhibited at the Met's "26th Annual National Exhibition of Advertising and Editorial Art" in 1947, and then again at the 1950 exhibition titled "20th Century Painters: A Special Exhibition of Oils, Water Colors and Drawings Selected from the Collections of American Art in the Metropolitan Museum". More recently, "Spring in Central Park" was exhibited at Fairfield University Art Museum for the 2017 exhibition "Adolf Dehn: Midcentury Manhattan".
Visiting, and then living in New York City, Dehn captured the essence of the city in his paintings, prints and drawings of the landscapes of Central Park, and of the city's burlesque and night club scenes...

Pluie a Venice (Venice in the Rain)
By André Hambourg
Located in Costa Mesa, CA
Pluie a Venice is painted in Hambourg's preferred palette of muted blue-green, grey, and gold with splashes of ruby red, deep blue, and emerald green. The soft colors work well for beach scenes and rainy days such as the ones portrayed in this painting. The impressionistic scene shows multiple pedestrians strolling down the boardwalk, shielding themselves from the rain with colorful umbrellas that provide pops of color and balance the overcast sky.
The background contains a three-masted ship and Piazza San Marco's famous bell tower and Basilica. Hambourg uses the minimum number of brushstrokes necessary to portray ships, seagulls, buildings and people as well as reflections on the glistening sidewalk. The brushstrokes in the sky have an interesting texture that is controlled yet carefree and there is heavy impasto throughout. His portrayal is both realistic and romanticized.
Hambourg was clearly influenced by the great Impressionist artists of earlier generations, perhaps none more than the one with a direct connection to his family. Hambourg's wife, Nicole Rachet, was born into a family with a large collection of works by Impressionist master Eugene Boudin. Rachet's grandfather was a contemporary and friend of Boudin's, and a collector of his work. In their later years, Hambourg and Rachet donated over 300 canvases by Boudin and other artists to the Eugene Boudin Museum in Honfleur, France. It was such a large and important gift that the collection bears...
