About the Item
A masterful oil painting depicting a serene British country side landscape with some figures along a winding path cutting through a lush, green meadow. Tall, slender trees with sparse foliage in the early spring, with their branches reaching toward a bright blue sky with puffed white clouds. Along the distance, a calm lake reflects the sky and surrounding greenery, adding depth to the composition. The colors are vibrant yet soft, with a mix of greens, blues, and hints of pink and purple in the foliage and ground, which is reminiscent of Alfred Sisley's plein-air landscapes. This piece is an excellent example of the works produced during the 1950s, with its rich color palette and layers of paint giving this work a stunning representation of countryside life. The way Clymer uses flecks of light dashed onto the canvas creates a joy for the viewer to experience. This painting is signed by the artist lower left, and it comes housed in a beautiful classic ornate gold tone wood carved frame and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

John Clymer was born near Brighton, England in 1932. At a very early age, he exhibited definite artistic talents. His father immediately recognized his son's gift and enrolled him at the royal art academy. John was soon swept by the serenity and tranquility of the impressionists. His favorites ranged from Monet to Pissaro and Sisley; eventually leading to an awakening interest in the magnificent Turners at Tate galleries. Clymer's serene yet colorful canvasses ably depict his love for the southern english coastline. Demand for his canvasses is very high in the United States and the European continent while still relatively dormant in his home country. As an Impressionist painter, Clymer was known for his pastoral landscapes depicting scenes from daily life; notably provincial French towns. He also created numerous views of city life during his stay in Paris.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Maple Glen, Pennsylvania; Lilac Gallery Collection. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.

John Clymer
An impressionist landscape painter, who until recently unfortunately was often confused with the American illustrator and painter John Ford Clymer (1907-1989). Our "John Clymer" has also been known to sign works as "John Moris" and now as "John Roby." Until the internet helped to distinguish the two artists, the younger Clymer's works were pretty much sold on their own merits as attractive, impressionistic, colorful decorative paintings. Now, happily, biographical information has become available on him, enabling him to emerge from the misattribution era when he was mixed up with the American illustrator. Clymer was born in Brighton, England in 1932. Early on his artistic talents were recognized and his father enrolled him in art education classes at the Royal Academy. In recent years, he has become recognized in England, the Continent and the USA for his skill in creating impressionist landscapes and coastal scenes.
