Louis Vivin
Le Pont Des Arts

1920

$16,000

About

Louis Vivin was a self-taught artist. He painted in the naive style and was a contemporary of Henri Rousseau, Camille Bombois, André Bauchant. Le Pont Des Arts depicts the famous pedestrian bridge with a view of the Institut de France in the background. Three figures are seen walking over the bridge while a boat on the River Seine goes under it. Although the work is quite flat Vivin makes a charming attempt at perspective with the bridge leading your eye back into deep pictorial space. There is a freshness and originality that Vivin gives to this famous and commonplace scene. The painting comes from the stroried Galerie Bing in Paris. Exhibited: Halle Saint Pierre: Paris. Peintres Naïfs de Rousseau à Demonchy. October to February 1995. The work is signed lower left L.Vivin.
