Helena Adamoff
The Gift Of The Two Lines Small Oil Painting

1960

About the Item

The Gift Of The Two Lines Born on March 21, 1906, in Moscow, she arrived as an emigrant to Paris at the age of 15, bearing in her young experience, the weight of the most transforming period in Russian history. Her work, deprived of artistic doctrines and conventionality, produced a language of episodic truths, storylines and narrations in its fullest and purest imagery. Russia is the backdrop, white, towering and submissive, a grand personification of nature, in which she lived, not created, but from which her spirit claimed the unrestrainable the creative force. Long accident recovery led her to painting. Her debut in 1954 gave way to a recognition which would manifest in exhibitions in Paris and Europe and would permanently place her in the most comprehensive Lexicon of the World’s Naive Painters, published in 1976. In 1970s the City of Paris bought four of her works for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Her work, deprived of artistic doctrines and conventionality, produced a language of episodic truths, storylines and narrations in its fullest and purest imagery. Her simplicity reflects her own internal surge of the heartfelt memories she so cherished, and the illumination Paris infused into her unique perspective as a woman and as a painter. Some of major exhibitions of her works include: Galerie de Haut Pave, Galerie Romi’s “Les Primitifs d’Aujourd’hui,” Galerie Charpentier’s “Festival des Arts”.

  • Beach in Numana Postimpressionist
    By Suzanne Eisendieck
    Located in Delray Beach, FL
Beach In Numana Suzanne Eisendieck was born at Holzraum Platz in Danzig (now Gdańsk in Poland) to German parents Karl Eisendick and Anna Eisendick. At the age of 12, Suzanne Eisendieck became one of the youngest pupils of the painter Fritz August Pfuhle. When she was 21, she went to study for three years at Berlin State Academy for Fine and Applied Arts, attending the class of Maximilian Klewer, and there took part in an exhibition with over 1400 objects displayed in a group collection. Only 9 were sold and 3 of these were her canvases. This successful show in Berlin enabled her later to travel to Paris where she took residence in a tiny attic of Latin Quarters near the Place St. Michel and started painting. It was a continuous financial struggle for Suzanne until one friend organized for Madame Zak to visit her small studio. She immediately purchased 6 of her paintings and put them in her gallery, Galerie Zak, at the Place Saint Germain des Près. There they were so much admired that she arranged for the first exhibition of Suzanne Eisendieck works. That was followed later by few others in the Leicester Galleries London. This was also the end of bitter hardship for young artist and the start of great success. Artistically her work was inspired by the French Impressionists and is in many private collections mostly in America. Majority of her drawings are rapid chalk or pen sketches...

  • Japan Japanese Garden by French naive outsider folk art primitive artist, 1975
    Located in Norwich, GB
A perfect painting for lovers of Japan and those of primitive/naive outside art. It is a work by an internatoanlly noted extraordinary artist with an extraordinary life. Maurice LOIRAND (1922-2008) is born into a working class family in Brittany, near the Atlantic coast coast in France. He starts working as a skilled labourer in the shipyards aged 15. Aged 20, when the Nazis start to occupy the country, he joins the Resistance movement, where he meets and befriends thinkers, painters and poets. He is thus introduced to an artistic and intellectual universe far removed from the world of his origins. Loirand finds himself drawn to art, and soon dedicates all his free time to learn how to paint. Completely self taught, he soon begins to exhibit his pictures alongside high level artists. He moves to Paris in the 1950s, and - although still working as a technician - paints all night. He finally becomes a full time artist in 1968. International travel and a multitude of exhibitions follow. He exhibits in Brazil, Argentina, and with Jean Tiroche Gallery in New York, among others. His work is now shown alongside works by Leger, Matisse and Picasso. The Collector's Guild New York Ltd commissions Maurice Loirand for several works of lithographic art. Loirand discovers Japan in the early 1970s, and decides to stay for 18 years. He marries Kazué SHIMOTORI, a Japanese poet...
