Ferguson was born in Philadelphia, PA, and studied with academic realists Charles Hawthorne and William Merritt Chase at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia. She exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; National Academy of Design, New York City; Buffalo Fine Arts Museum, New York; and Philadelphia Men's Club, where she received a gold medal. She also exhibited her paintings from 1914 through 1945 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and in 1949 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia. Over her career, she became best known for her plein-air paintings of colorful townscapes, street scenes and genre depictions of Provincetown, and Truro, Massachusetts.
