Description of the Work
Cadaqués in Calm is an evocative depiction of the renowned coastal town of the Empordà, bathed in the Mediterranean light. With vibrant, loose brushstrokes and short fragments, Pichot skillfully captures the shimmering reflections on the water and the radiant atmosphere of the surroundings. At the center of the composition stands the iconic Church of Santa Maria, crowning a typically white architectural ensemble, harmonizing chromatically with the iridescent sea in hues of blue, lilac, gold, and green.
A small boat floats in the foreground, introducing a narrative element of stillness. The scene breathes harmony and contemplation, evoking a landscape frozen in time. The treatment of light and color reveals a strong post-impressionist influence, reminiscent of Renoir, Monet, or Sorolla, yet imbued with the artist’s own intimate lyricism.
Biography of the Artist
Ramón Pichot Soler (Figueres, 1924 – Barcelona, 1996) was a prominent Catalan painter and a member of a well-known artistic family from the Empordà region. He was the grandson of the modernist painter Ramón Pichot Gironès, a friend of both Picasso and Dalí, and the son of the cellist Ricard Pichot. Raised in an environment of profound artistic sensibility, his brother Antoni Pitxot was also a painter and a close collaborator of Salvador Dalí, serving as director of the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres.
Ramón Pichot Soler began exhibiting in 1939 in Barcelona and later in other Spanish and international cities such as New York and Palm Beach. His work is distinguished by a luminous vision of the Mediterranean landscape, with a special devotion to Cadaqués, which he depicted on numerous occasions with refined technique and a palette rich in nuances. His painting combines naturalism and impressionism with a distinctive personal touch.
In 2007, the Museu d'Art de Girona dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him titled Fragments de vida. Some of his works are held in public collections, including the MACBA.

Ramon Pichot i Soler
Ramon Pichot Soler (Figueres, 1924 - 1996) belongs to a family closely linked to the arts. His father - Ricard Pichot - and his uncle Luis were closely related to music: the first cellist, disciple of Pau Casals, and the second violinist. Closer to plastic activity is his uncle Ramon, who developed his pictorial corpus at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his cello studies, but opted for the plastic arts upon discovering his true vocation. At that time he lived in Paris and there he began his formative stage within the post-impressionist current, a style to which he remained faithful throughout his career. Pichot was twenty years old when he exhibited for the first time. Later, through various exhibitions, he became known both in Spain and in Europe. In March 1954 he exhibited at the "Círculo de Bellas Artes" in Madrid and soon his work would be accepted in the United States, specifically in New York. He exhibited for the first time at the Trosby Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida in 1964 and two years later he exhibited at the Hammer Galleries in New York with great success, which was repeated on numerous occasions until 1981.
