Composition with a jar, oil painting by Pierre Coquet
Located in Montfort l’Amaury, FR
Composition with a jar, oil painting by Pierre Coquet Reference number F488 Framed with a natural oak floated frame 48 x 70 x 2 cm (53 x 75 x 3,5 cm frame included) This work is painted with oil on a paper that is laid on a canvas and placed in a made to measure wood strectcher. Stamp of the signature in the bottom right and stamp of workshop on the back. In this composition, the brushstrokes are thicker and the touches of white revive the overall effect, which has been treated in rough, earthy tones. An orange background can be seen underneath, lighting up the materials in places. The play of light completes the rendering of the modeling. In this painting, there's all the humility of a painter who wants to give life to these objects while remaining simple. Still lives are one of Pierre favourite subjects. Always in a very quiet atmosphere, with simple objects or alive nature. Provenance : Workshop of the artist (stamped and numbered on the back) Pierre Coquet (1926-2021) is a French painter who was born in Limas near Lyon, France. He entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon in 1942 and followed the teaching of Antoine Chartres, Henri Vielly and René Chancrin...

Composition with jugs, oil painting by Pierre Coquet Reference number F486 Framed with a natural oak floated frame 43 x 72 x 2 cm (48 x 77 x 3,5 cm frame included) This work is painted with oil on a paper that is laid on a canvas and placed in a made to measure wood strectcher. Stamp of the signature in the bottom right and stamp of workshop on the back. With simple, soft colors, Pierre brings these objects together in a neutral atmosphere, enhanced by this orange, which adds a luminous touch to the composition. Mostly broad brushstrokes, sometimes barely a sketch in the background. The material effects stand out well, the light coming from the right reinforces the contours of each of the objects presented. Flowers of the Field
Located in Westmount, QC
Molly Lamb Bobak, Canadian, 1920 – 2014 Flowers of the Field Watercolour 22 x 15 in signed framed Molly Bobak Biography (1922 - 2014) RCA It could be said that Molly Lamb Bobak was destined to be an artist. She was born on Lulu Island, near Vancouver, British Columbia, on February 25, 1920. She grew up in a bohemian enclave. Her father, Harold Mortimer Lamb, was a photographer and art critic. In 1926, her father opened a commercial art gallery in Vancouver, exhibiting painters, sculptors, and photographers. In 1938, Bobak attended art school at the Vancouver School of Art and studied under Jack Shadbolt, where she learned to improve her drawing and composition skills. While working at the Yellow Point Lodge during the summer of 1940, Lamb kept a diary filled with text and caricatures and drew everyone that she encountered. Bobak joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in 1942. While serving, she found endless material to paint and included these paintings in her personal journal, which was later published and titled “W110278: The Personal War Records of Private Lamb, M”, which included 147 folios and fifty single sheet sketches. After being stationed in Alberta and Quebec, the military recognized her artistic abilities and invited her to attend a drafting course in Toronto. After finishing the course, Lamb tried to become an official war artist. In 1942, Lamb was sent to Ottawa where she drew at the Trades Training offices where she designed posters and Christmas cards. Three of Bobak’s drawings were purchased by the Art Gallery of Ontario in the same year. In 1944, “Meal Parade, Hamilton Trades School” (n.d) tied for second prize at the National Gallery’s Canadian Army Art Show, which helped her receive the appointment as a war artist––the only woman who earned this designation. As women were not allowed on the active war front, Bobak was transferred to London, England, six weeks after Victory Day to document the aftermath of the war. After leaving the military, Bobak settled with her husband Bruno, in Vancouver. After the move, Bobak had little time to paint as she was teaching night courses at the Vancouver School of Art and tending to her children. After earning a French scholarship in 1950, Bobak, her husband, and their two children traveled to Paris where she experienced the works of modernist painters like Cézanne and Matisse. Cézanne’s work in particular influenced Bobak’s art, which can be seen in the geometric organization of “A Bakership, Saint-Léonard” (1951) and “The Saint Ives Train...

Floral Still Life

A colorful impressionist floral still life with fruit by American artist Humbert Howard (1905-1990). Howard was born in Philadelphia and considered an important figure among contemporary African-American artists. He was educated at Howard University in Washington, D.C., the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and the Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pennsylvania. Howard was also art director of the Pyramid Club, a respected black cultural center in Philadelphia. As director of the club’s art exhibitions, he selected works by both black and white artists for display. By the time he retired in 1971, he had developed a loyal following of collectors and dealers in the Philadelphia area. In the eighties, he became increasingly involved with younger members of the local art scene and became a mentor to emerging black artists...

Cello- 21st Century Contemporary Dutch Stille Painting of a Music Instrument
By Rein Pol
Located in Nuenen, Noord Brabant
Rein Pol Cello 93 x 120 cm ( Frame is included 107 x 134 cm) Oil on wood panel, 1987 Looking at Rein Pol's work, it is first and foremost striking that the artist's subjects are very diverse. However, he was mainly known for his paintings 'with trains'. If you look further, you will see that Rein Pol has many sources of inspiration about which he can tell 'stories in paint'. On the website of the Classical Academy in Groningen there is a beautiful teacher portrait of Rein Pol, the first part of this text comes from that site: The fact that Rein Pol made paintings with trains in them gave him the stigma of being a train painter. The 'Blue Angel' is just one of many, often autobiographical, subjects in his paintings. This also applies to nature, landscape, persons and objects from his immediate environment, in which transience is an underlying theme. “As a child I was always drawing. The profession of art teacher appealed to me. It never occurred to me that I could become a painter.' At the Minerva Academy, teachers such as Ger Siks and Matthijs Röling impressed him. Their influence is still noticeable in his paintings: the atmospheric of Röling and the alienating of Siks. After the academy Rein briefly taught at a secondary school. "Not an unqualified success! So when I was asked to come and teach at Minerva, I seized the opportunity with both hands. I have learned a lot myself from teaching academy students.' A violin on fire, a train soaring to heaven, Romance at its best! The passion is in the details, the feathers of a dead bird, the drops on a misty mirror. And that passion is what Romanticism is all about. Rein Pol has been working professionally as a painter since 1976. He always has a keen eye for the expressiveness of the apparently insignificant detail. Every theme that Pol paints is depicted in a clear, harmonious composition with great attention to light, texture, spatial and color effects. The paintings are not intended as an exact copy of the reality around us, but as a representation of our own reality! Hans van Seventer previously wrote: “The subjects of Rein Pol's paintings move between the ordinary and the absurd. He paints musical instruments as well as a bottle containing the fetus of a pig. Sometimes the smell of manure rises from his landscapes, then again a Groningen bum toils along the steep banks of a Norwegian fjord. His self-portraits form a collection in themselves: in the mirror of the bathroom, in a glass display case surrounded by 'gohst of the past', or simply with a jar of pickles as a sign of his dignity”. With his work Pol is counted among the Northern Figuratives. Rein Pol exhibits a lot in the Netherlands. Abroad he exhibited in Germany, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and Indonesia. With the so-called Zwiggelte Group in France, the United States, Canada and Australia. Much of the painter's work is included in private collections. His paintings are also in the possession of, among others, the Drents Museum in Assen, the Smallingerland Museum in Drachten, the Free University of Amsterdam, the ING Collection and the Philips Collection...

Bouquet de Fleurs
By Louis Toncini
Located in London, GB
'Bouquet de Fleurs', oil on board, by Louis Toncini (1982). Painted towards the end of his career, this piece belongs to that part of his body of work which was lighthearted, optimistic and pleasing. It is a stunning still life characterised by Toncini's vibrant colours and textured layers of oil paint deftly applied. This vase holds the flowers of Toncini's native Provence and is a love letter from the artist to the viewer. In good overall condition. It is newly framed with a French-style linen slip. It is signed by the artist in the lower left hand. Upon request, a short video of this piece may be provided. (NB - On the reverse of this painting is another called 'Landscape in Saint Clément on the Durance' which is currently covered by the backing board. Image with accompanying photos to this listing. About the Artist: Louis Toncini (1907-2002), born in Marseille, France and was one of a group of artists who founded the 'peintres prolétariens', or later, the painters of the people. He painted the world of workers and depicted such subjects as factories, warehouses, train stations and working ports, etc. After the war his work took a more optimistic turn with paintings of still lifes, bouquets and country landscapes.
