Vita Merca Latvian artist born 1951. Her father was a conductor, her mother was fascinated with violin and entered Vita in the music world and later in fine arts. A Pacific Northwest native, Bauer was born in Vancouver, Washington, and has maintained a studio in Portland, Oregon since 1976. She attended the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the University of Oregon where she received her M.F.A. Since that time, she has exhibited her work throughout the Northwest while teaching art as an associate professor at Marylhurst University. Bauer applies her modernist approach to her artwork, and her paintings become a sort of balancing act in reconciling her subjects and her techniques. Teetering between abstraction and representational, Bauer's houses are depicted as simplified forms, exploiting a universal iconography. The recognizable elements in her artwork – trees, buildings – are unconventionally depicted in wide patches of overlapping color, "pulling each painting away from literal interpretation." Marlene Bauer's abstractions stem from her interest in the visual dynamics of a quick impression of a landscape from a moving car or a glance out a window. The artist has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions at the Laura Russo Gallery, the Elizabeth Leach Gallery (both in Portland), and the Davidson Galleries in Seattle. It depicts a storefront in Troyes, France. As with many of her paintings, Brigeois pays particular attention to light and shadow. The painting is in very good condition with no flaws to note. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and signed and dated on the reverse. It is titled on a foamcore mount. It is custom matted with three hinges on the top edge of the art. Born in France in 1946, Evelyne Brigeois was an internationally acclaimed watercolor artist. This oil painting from 1985 is priced at a fraction of the original price. It was in our storage area and we just decided to put it on sale at a price which is a fraction of the original price. These still life with illusion paintings were originally sold in New York City at the D&D building on 59th street. It was a building that only interior designers were allowed to shop at. the general public could only go in with their interior designer to select an item. This came from the Haller Gallery in that space. It was originally priced at $3500 when at the gallery in the D&D building in NYC. It is oil on canvas and in very subtle colors. The top right area of the canvas show slight lines of cracking to the paint. You can see that on one of the close up images. The pale thick colors (The illusions) give a 3d floating look.
