Contemporary Still-life Paintings

CONTEMPORARY STYLE

Used to refer to a time rather than an aesthetic, Contemporary art generally describes pieces created after 1970 or being made by living artists anywhere in the world. This immediacy means it encompasses art responding to the present moment through diverse subjects, media and themes. Contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, performance, digital art, video and more frequently includes work that is attempting to reshape current ideas about what art can be, from Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s use of candy to memorialize a lover he lost to AIDS-related complications to Jenny Holzer’s ongoing “Truisms,” a Conceptual series that sees provocative messages printed on billboards, T-shirts, benches and other public places that exist outside of formal exhibitions and the conventional “white cube” of galleries.

Contemporary art has been pushing the boundaries of creative expression for years. Its disruption of the traditional concepts of art are often aiming to engage viewers in complex questions about identity, society and culture. In the latter part of the 20th century, contemporary movements included Land art, in which artists like Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer create large-scale, site-specific sculptures, installations and other works in soil and bodies of water; Sound art, with artists such as Christian Marclay and Susan Philipsz centering art on sonic experiences; and New Media art, in which mass media and digital culture inform the work of artists such as Nam June Paik and Rafaël Rozendaal.

The first decades of the 21st century have seen the growth of Contemporary African art, the revival of figurative painting, the emergence of street art and the rise of NFTs, unique digital artworks that are powered by blockchain technology.

Major Contemporary artists practicing now include Ai Weiwei, Cecily Brown, David Hockney, Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Kara Walker.

Bright Light / oil painting on panel, eucalyptus leaves - abstract realism
Located in Burlingame, CA
'Bright Light' from Stephanie Peek, who makes her home in California, is beautifully rendered with a sense of depth, intellect, timelessness, and mystery. An elegant painting referencing dried eucalyptus leaves that the artist piled up in her studio and studied under a variety of natural and man-made lighting arrangements, as well as at various times of day and night. Oil on panel with natural alabaster ground into the pigments. The painting celebrates natures abstract qualities with a realist's approach. Peek has floated tulips, roses and other flowers and leaves from 17th century still life paintings through the dark smoky atmosphere of her paintings of night...

'Omega I' - Contemporary Geometric Abstraction Pixelation - Skull - Bosch
Located in Atlanta, GA
'Omega I' is an abstract pointillist painting featuring hues of tan, ocher, green, brown, pink and black. Robert Hightower is inspired by the work of Giotto, Hieronymus Bosch, Jean-François Millet, Roger Brown, Howard Arkley and Julian Opie. This piece is a part of a special immersive gallery installation, “The Apocalypse Simulacra,” which is a narrative presentation of the twilight of humanity, at the fulcrum of extinction by Atlanta-based artist Robert Hightower. Through stage-set constructions, readymade plastic models and paintings, Hightower investigates the duality of right/wrong, good/bad, eternal/ephemeral in light of the imminent end of the Human Epoch. It depicts the ideological origins of corporate greed and power, the reality of wealth distribution in the “American Dream,” and the socio-economic and environmental impacts of that collective greed. After receiving a BFA in sculpture from the University of Georgia, Hightower moved to New York City and participated in The Bronx Museum of the Art’s AIM Fellowship (Artist In the Marketplace). While in New York, his interests expanded to include art installation and the creation of spaces, and has since designed and built many unique homes, penthouses and restaurants throughout the United States. Hightower has returned home to Atlanta and will be presenting his most comprehensive body of work to date, “The Apocalypse Simulacra,” a unique universe of beauty, dichotomy and uncertainty. ARTIST STATEMENT The 'Apocalypse Simulacra' is a presentation of the twilight of humanity, at the fulcrum of extinction. The climate is the subject. The Simulacra is the Theme. First discussed by Plato, the Simulacra is the search for Truth in Duality. Developing into Post-Modernism with Nietzsche’s: truth=Truth. Now with Bauvillard, the Simulacra has evolved beyond Post-Modernism, into the wholesale confusion of the real/fake, the true/false… between reality and hyper-reality. This crumbling, confusing of the truth (not necessarily the Truth) is our Reality. For over two decades, I have created large format paintings of strip malls, suburban houses and toys. These paintings present singular images flattened-out (almost floating) on color-fields. They create a certain duality - a loving portrait of an inanimate object that would not normally be singled-out for affection. With my latest work, I have added a variety of iconic images: an airplane, a whisky bottle, a woman floating in a pool. The icons are presented in a pixelated or degenerated state. In addition to paintings, I have used adult-size building blocks to create sculptures or three-dimensional paintings. Using a child's toy at an adult-scale gives the building blocks an austere and powerful presence. The building blocks echo the blocks of the pixelated paintings...

Longing Past IV : Wall Clock, Pink, Metalic color, Acrylic Painting "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Pradosh Swain - Longing Past IV - 24 x 60 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on canvas Avail our Free Shipping all across the world in a roll form Style : Pradosh’s works can be described as psychic automatism in its pure state. His works are expressive and his palette vibrant and gorgeous. Nature is the frequent imagery that we see in his paintings. Sometimes his imagery is outlandish, perplexing and uncanny as it is meant to shake the viewer and make them to think beyond the theories which they have guarded themselves with. Lot of elements that we see in pradosh’s paintings also come from his childhood days in Odisha. His paintings often take us on a nostalgic ride where we see elements which we were so used to and have now learnt to live without. He uses common elements that we see in our day to day life to convey his feelings and thought which makes his works all the more interesting. His paintings leave the viewer perplexed at the first glance but a deeper look gives the insight into his thoughts that instigate him to create. Pradosh’s paintings have a surrealistic quality, the imagery is dreamy and mystical and rendering is such as if there is some kind of romance and magic happening amongst the colours in his palette. His paintings are the result of brilliant culminations of feelings and things that are between imagination and reality. They reflect his genuine concern about issues he feels for. He emphasizes on the power of imagination and believes that revelation could be found anywhere….on the streets and in everyday life. Through his paintings artist depicts the notion that how our high pace life is making all of us loose that contact from the nature or even with ourselves. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1972 , Orissa. Education : 1994 : Bachelor in Fine Arts from Utkal University. 1989 : Diploma in Photographic from College of Education and Technology, Bubaneswar 2005 : Certificate Course on Reprography from National archives of India, New Delhi. 2007 : Conservation of Art Objects from National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property, Lucknow. Kleiderbügel
Located in Morongo Valley, CA
'Kleiderbügel' by Fides Becker Acrylic and Eggtempera on Canvas, 65 x 55 cm The leading theme of the artist’s interventions is the staging of temporality, transience, and change. Fides Becker (* 1962) developed and pursued her picturesque strategies in the illusionistic pictorial space. Her practice explores intimate worlds through objects and materials we associate with the private sphere in everyday life. Sofas, beds, curtains, mirrors, and sheets are reconstituted in her paintings as fragments, details or dissolving surfaces that engage with the ambiguities between presence and absence, past and present, and personal and collective images. Fides Becker (*1962 in Worms) studied at the Städel School in Frankfurt a.M., at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam, and at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Her works can be found in numerous national and international collections, such as the National Collection of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Art Collection of the German Bank...
