Mars on Earth, Michigan - Black & White Photo of A Sparse Snow Covered Landscape
Located in Chicago, IL
The harsh, grim landscape of the surface of mars is the subject of Kirill Polevoy's black and white photograph entitled "Mars on Earth, Michigan". By bringing the angle of the photo down to the ground, there is an even greater sparseness to the stark landscape. Yet with a closer look, we see the boulders and sand are actually melted snow piles. This large format photograph is unframed. Please contact the gallery for framing options. Kirill Polevoy Mars on Earth, Michigan archival pigment print 60h x 40w in 152.40h x 101.60w cm 1/20 KIP034 “Through a black and white lens, hidden stories of everyday objects become apparent. The juxtaposition of strong light and dark shadows transform and illuminate detail that would otherwise be dismissed. Diminutive elements become rich in meaning allowing compositions to effortlessly evolve. As I attempt to uncover the hidden truth of the world around me, I am inevitably mesmerized by it and I hope you will be too.” A self-taught photographer, Kirill Polevoy, first started making photographs with an old Russian film camera...

Ribbons
Located in San Francisco, CA
This photographic triptych Titled "Ribbons" 1998 is a gelatin silver print on paper by noted American/Canadian artist Carol Marino, born 1943. It is hand signed, dated 1998 and titled in dark red ink by the artist. The size of each photograph is 16 x 11 inches, sheet size is 16. 5 x 11.5 inches. The three together is 34.65 x 11.5 inches, framed is 29.25 x 43 inches. Framed in a silver and maple frame. The photographs are in excellent condition, the frame has some minor scratches and will be replaced by a similar or better new frame before shipping, which will make the overall condition excellent. About the artist: CAROL MARINO (Canadian, b. United States, 1943) In reaction to the industrial landscape of Pittsburgh, where she grew up, Carol Marino responds to her present, comparatively untouched environment with a certain instinctive attachment to it. Photographing near and around her home in northern Ontario, she focuses on flora and fauna in their natural habitats. For her, photography is a vehicle to express her concern for and engagement with her natural surroundings and her work often shows the influence of artists such as Edward Weston or Imogen Cunningham, particularly in its sensuality. Marino generally makes only a single print from each negative, often grouping three or four images together to create assemblages. About the Artist: ALEX BOYD Alex Boyd's images represent a major addition to the tradition of modern landscape photography" – Robert Macfarlane, Author Alex Boyd is a landscape and documentary photographer, printmaker and writer. His work is primarily concerned with the Scottish landscape. As a photographer his work examines the role of early Scottish landscape photographers, often using antique processes such as the Victorian wet-plate collodion process using antique cameras in mountain environments. He is best known for his conceptual and figurative landscape photography which explores concepts of Scottish identity through historical and contemporary romanticism, neo-romanticism, Romantic nationalism and Spirit of Place. His work is largely concerned with depictions of the Celtic landscape, conservation and remote places, and is often characterised by its stark, poetic and introspective qualities. In 2019 he was awarded a Daiwa Foundation Scholarship to work and photograph the mountains of the Japan Alps centred on Mount Yari as well as shortlisted for the Hariban Award. He was the Mountain Photographer of the Year at the Kendal Mountain Festival in 2013, the UK’s largest mountain festival. His work on the Cuillin mountains on the Isle of Skye as the Royal Scottish Academy’s artist in Residence is in several National Collections. His work has been widely exhibited internationally with solo exhibitions at the Scottish Parliament, as well as group exhibitions at the Royal Academy, Royal Ulster Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy. His work is held in the collections of the National Galleries of Scotland, The Royal Photographic Society, the Royal Scottish Academy, the V&A in London and the Yale Centre for British Arts in the USA. His first book St Kilda – The Silent Islands was recently shortlisted for a Saltire Award. His second book The Isle of Rust, a collaboration with writer Jonathan Meades was, like his first book, named as a photography book of the year by The Scotsman. He is a Fellow of the National Library of Scotland, The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, The Ballinglen Arts Foundation, and the Royal Society of Art. He is currently working on a PhD on Scottish Photography at Northumbria University, a selection of new books on The Faroe Islands, The Outer Hebrides. A collection of his Scottish and Irish collodion work is due out in 2021 as well as a solo exhibition ‘Hesperus’ at Stills, Scotland’s Centre of Photography, in June 2020. Offered in a limited edition, these works are printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta paper, which sets the standard for image definition and color depth. Each print includes an embossed certificate of authenticity and is signed and numbered. All images are printed in-house on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta paper and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. For your convenience, all images are printed with a 3” paper border; this is not included in the listed sizes. Through a fashion-inspired lens, photographer and filmmaker Drew Doggett tells extraordinary stories of diverse cultures, animals, places, and communities. Bombay Hook Wildlife Reserve: large black & white landscape photograph w/ sepia
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
This large-scale black and white landscape is part of artist Ron Tarver's long-term, ongoing project, " Land, Sea, Air," that explores the wide-ranging system of wetlands in the US National Wildlife Refuge. It depicts the wetlands of the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest remaining expanses of tidal salt marsh in the mid-Atlantic region. The refuge, located along the coast of Delaware, is mostly marsh, but also includes freshwater impoundments and upland habitats that are managed for other wildlife. Through his elegantly rendered naturalistic photos that verge on abstraction, Tarver investigates the delicate nature of the ecosystem, the government's precarious conservation policies, and our relationship to these unique spaces. This print is also in the collection of the Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA. It ships rolled in a 36 "x 6" tube. Ron Tarver is a professor of Studio Art specializing in Photography at Swarthmore College. He served as staff photographer at the Philadelphia Inquirer for 32 years, and his work has appeared in National Geographic, Life, Time, Newsweek, The New Yorker, and Black and White Magazine. He is co-author of the book We Were There: Voices of African American Veterans, published by Harper Collins in 2004, which was accompanied by a traveling exhibition. Tarver shares a 2012 Pulitzer Prize at the Inquirer for his work on a series documenting school violence in the Philadelphia public school system, and was nominated for a second Pulitzer in 2013 for a series exploring dog...
