Jerusalem, Israel Western Wall Ed of 5 Vintage Silver gelatin Photograph Print
Located in Surfside, FL
Photo Image taken in black & white of Western Wall (Wailing Wall) Kotel Hamaaravi in Jerusalem Israel. Hand signed, dated and titled. From very small edition of just 5 prints. (American-Israeli) Born in New York City, Mikael Levin grew up in Israel, the United States and France. He attended Williams College and received a B.A. in Film and Photography from Hampshire College in 1976 before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Levin's first published project was Silent Passage (1985), a series of romantic, reflective landscape photographs inspired by a pond in Sweden. This was followed by several other series, including Les Quatre Saisons du Territoire, a study of the changes in land use in western France; Borders, which focused on the political, practical, and conceptual transformation of national borders in contemporary Europe; and War Story, Levin's reconstruction of the journey his father, the war correspondent Meyer Levin, made while traveling with the photographer Eric Schwab during World War II. Meyer Levin wrote of these experiences in In Search (1950), which described his view of the final battles of World War II and the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps in 1944-45. Levin photographed sites his father and Schwab had visited as they appear today. These photographs and passages from the elder Levin's writings formed an installation work at ICP in 1997, and were also published as a book. Levin's most recent project, Common Places: Cultural Identity in the Urban Environment, considers the relationship between the past and present in the urban environments of four European cities: Katrineholm, Cambrai, Erfurt, and Thessaloniki. Although inflected differently in each series, Mikael Levin's photographs have in common their interest in the emotional, intellectual, and historical significance of landscape. His work ignites landscape's capacity simultaneously to recall and overwrite the events of the past, especially in works such as War Story and Common Places. His photographs represent a new approach to landscape photography that reinvigorates this traditional genre. Lisa Hostetler Handy et al. Reflections in a Glass Eye: Works from the International Center of Photography Collection, New York: Bulfinch Press in association with the International Center of Photography, 1999 Mikael Levin has been exhibited widely in the US and in Europe, including solo exhibitions at the Jewish Museum, Paris, 2010, the Berardo Museum, Lisbon, 2009, the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, 2003, the International Center of Photography, New York, 1997, and Fundación Mendoza, Caracas, 1980. Vintage Silver Gelatin Signed Photograph Samuel Gottscho Garden Flowers Photo NY
Located in Surfside, FL
Vintage hand signed and stamp signed with the photographers stamp and numbered photo of trilliums. Samuel Herman Gottscho (February 8, 1875 - January 28, 1971) was an American architectural, landscape, and nature photographer. Samuel Gottscho was born in Brooklyn in New York City. He acquired his first camera in 1896 and took his first photograph at Coney Island. From 1896 to 1920 he photographed part-time, specializing in houses and gardens, as he particularly enjoyed nature, rural life, and landscapes. After attending several architectural photograph exhibitions, Gottscho decided to perfect and improve his own work and sought out several architects and landscape architects. After twenty-three years as a traveling lace and fabric salesman, at an age when most people would have given up their youthful dreams, Gottscho became a professional commercial photographer at the age of 50. His son-in-law William Schleisner joined Gottscho in his business in 1935. During this time his photographs appeared in and on the covers of American Architect and Architecture, Architectural Record. His portraits and architectural photography regularly appeared in articles in the New York Times. His photographs of private homes in the New York and Connecticut suburbs often appeared in home decoration magazines. From the early 1940s to the late 1960s, he was a regular contributor to the Times of illustrated articles on wildflowers. the meticulous, adoring pictures of New York City architecture and interiors that he took at his creative peak in the late 1920's and early 30's are finding a new audience, placing him more firmly in the ranks of the great architectural photographers of his day, like Ezra Stoller, Julius Shulman and Ken and Bill Hedrich. the Museum of the City of New York, which has one of the largest archives of Gottscho's work, showed about 150 of his best city scenes in an exhibition called "The Mythic City: Photographs of New York...

River Lune, Cumbria, England
Located in Sante Fe, NM
Edward Ranney is an internationally recognized photographer who has photographed the natural and man-altered landscape for over forty years. In 1980 Edward Ranney was awarded a grant from The Northern Arts Council of Great Britain to photograph throughout Cumbria, in Northern England, and to exhibit a selection of the resulting work at the Carlisle Museum and Art Gallery. The work extended into 1981, and the exhibition took place in 1982. This selection of photographs favors views of the open spaces of the hills, or fells, of Cumbria and Northumberland including Hadrian’s Wall, the fortified earthwork delimiting the northernmost Roman occupation of the British Isles. Born in 1942, educated at Yale University, internationally recognized landscape photographer Edward Ranney is the recipient of numerous awards and grants including NEA grants (1974 and 1982), a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship (1977), and Fulbright Fellowships (1964 and 1993). Edward Ranney is an internationally recognized photographer who has photographed the natural and man-altered landscape for over forty years. The Andean coastal desert of southern Peru is particularly known for the geoglyphs created by the Nazca culture around 500 AD. The image shown is selected from The Lines, the monograph published by the Yale University Art Gallery in 2014. In contrast to the aerial viewpoint favored by contemporary photographers in the depicting these glyphs, Ranney’s photographs, made between 1985 and 2009, are made on ground level using a 5x7 large format camera. The physical contact with the desert spaces transformed by Nazca cultural traditions gives us an immediate sense of the challenging natural world in which the Nazca flourished. More importantly, when viewed from the ground, they glyphs – or lines – transform a harsh environment into an understandable, even intimate, cultural space.
