Interior Rahway, NJ
Located in Westwood, NJ
“It takes the passage of time before an image of a commonplace subject can be assessed. The great difficulty of what I attempt is seeing beyond the moment; the everydayness of life gets in the way of the eternal.” --George Tice GEORGE TICE was born in 1938 in Newark, NJ, the state in which his ancestors had lived for generations earlier. He joined a camera club when he was fourteen, and is largely a self taught photographer. Two years later, when his picture of an alleyway was commended by a pro photographer critiquing club members' work, Tice was off and running with what would become his life’s work.. Tice studied commercial photography for a short time at Newark Vocational and Technical High School then decided to join the Navy. After, he worked as a traveling portrait photographer for almost 10 years. In 1959, Edward Steichen, then director of photography at MOMA acquired Tice's photo of an explosion aboard the USS Wasp for the museum. Later he aided Lee Witkin in establishing the seminal Witkin Gallery in NYC. His work was included in the opening group show in 1969 and the first of many solo shows there began the following April. George’s change to larger format cameras in the 60’s furthered his ability to craft carefully toned and detailed prints. He portrayed traditional Amish and Shaker communities, as well as the hard lives of fishermen in Maine. In the 1970s, Tice began explore his native NJ and began to document the vestiges of American culture on the verge of extinction, the work he is best known for. Whether it is the rural people who reside in small communities or suburban buildings and neighborhoods in decline, his great talent is finding deep meaning and emotional content in the most mundane subjects. In 1972, Tice was the subject of a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, George Tice’s work is included in more than 80 major museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, as well as countless private collections. Some of his iconic New Jersey images form the scenic backdrop...

MacDowell Colony (1995, 1992, 1986) Yaddo (1997). For many years, Brenda Zlamany has painted portraits of other artists, including Chuck Close, Alex Katz, and David Hockney. She has also been a subject for them; as she puts it, “we are professional posers.” Recently, however, she has worked to paint portraits of those whose gaze is more internal—monks and nomads in Tibet, aboriginal people in Taiwan—creating large bodies of portraits that investigate the limits of the genre. She returned, with her daughter, to Hockney’s studio in 2014, not only to sit for him but to paint him once again. Her practice involves the long sittings and intense looking required of traditional portrait-making. Muse X Editions. An (now defunct) LA based innovative publisher of limited-edition prints, Muse X has launched its first group of prints and is just beginning to make itself known to artists, curators, dealers and collectors. Salty Clowns, Untitled 1 - Portrait Photography, Still-life Photography
Located in Brighton, GB
Please bear in mind that all prints are produced to order and lead times are between 15-20 days. Unique 10" x 8" Salt Paper Print toned with Selenium and Varnished with Lavender and Beeswax. The practice and potential of Photo Therapy is something that has long interested Rachel Louise Brown, so during the pandemic lockdowns, she decided to explore for herself, photography’s power to heal. Building a small studio set in her living room, she used the performative nature of self-portraiture as a tool to cope with her grief, frustration and fear, instinctively gravitating towards clowns as a subject. Alongside conjuring clown characters, having hired archival and historical outfits from the National Theatre & Clown Museum and attempted the art of clown make up, Brown was keen to learn new analogue techniques – particularly some of the earliest ones that have led to the world of photography as we know it today. Since then, Brown has attempted to master the historical alchemical process of salt printing. Invented by William Henry Fox Talbot in the mid-1830s, salt printing was the earliest photographic method capable of fixing a negative to positive image on paper. Using salt water...

In one of them this diagnosis has metastasized to the brain and I am no longer able to care for my children. The bank takes over the house and I become an albatross in hands not fully formed. . . In the other world, noise shuts down for a very split second and the smallest fragment of light becomes a pathway to immortality. Color is no longer a placeholder and language no longer a tool. . .
