She went on to participate in various exhibition ins Japan and by 1951 was awarded prices from the Issuikai and Nitten exhibitions. She then emigrated in 1953 to the United States and joined the then California School of Fine Arts, today the San Francisco Art Institute. Later she moved to New York where she studied with Hans Hofmann and with Julian Levi at the Arts Students League. It was in New York her style developed into the abstract style she is known for and numerous solo, successful international exhibitions followed - notably 30 kilometers from my home with the Gallerie Kornfeld in Bern, Switzerland – and prestigious commissions followed Teruko Yokoi was married to Sam Francis, with whom she had two daughters. Later the well-traveled Japanese artiste moved permanently to beautiful Bern and died in Switzerland in 2020. This coloured lithograph on offer is still rarely seen on the market – this points to it popularity among collectors - and dates to 1979 – likely to be her most passionate period. The sheet is in excellent condition and the title “ Bach ” is likely to refer to the composer Johann Sebastian Bach; so do we have here an abstracted depiction of music ?
