Limited Edition Keith Haring spray paint set of 4; published circa 2018 featuring the Estate trademark of Keith Haring. A unique Haring collectible that makes for a fantastic Keith Haring display set. Medium: Off-set lithograph on 4 individual metal spray paint cans. Approximately 8 x 2.5 inches each individual. Each new/unused; comes with a pocket cap as originally issued. From a sold-out/out of print edition of unknown. © Keith Haring Foundation, Licensed by Artestar, New York. *Please note international shipping is not available on this piece. Keith Haring rose to prominence in 1980s New York within the East Village art scene alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, and Jenny Holzer. He bridged the gap between the art world and the street, graffiting city subways and sidewalks before committing to a studio practice. Haring united the appeal of cartoons with the raw energy of Art Brut artists such as Jean DuBuffet as he developed a distinct pop-graffiti aesthetic that comprised energetic, boldly outlined figures against solid or patterned backdrops. His major themes included exploitation, subjugation, drug abuse, and the threat of nuclear holocaust; Haring boldly engaged with social issues, especially after receiving an AIDS diagnosis in 1987. Today, his work sells for seven figures at auction and has been the subject of solo shows at the Brooklyn Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna, among other institutions. This work is hand signed by Pure Evil and numbered 1/1. ABOUT THE ARTIST Charles Uzzell-Edwards is the real name of the man behind Pure Evil's pseudonym. Born in South Wales in the year of 1968 and son of the abstraction painter John Uzzell-Edwards, arts and creativity have always been around in his life. At the beginning of the 90's he left the United Kingdom to live in the United States for a few years, specifically, in San Francisco. Influenced by the American west coast's trends of the moment, he began to have a deeper interest for the urban culture of skate, graffiti and electronic music. By then, Pure Evil began working for the clothing brand Anarchic Adjustment, giving the first steps into the world of graphic design and stencil. As a multi talented artist, very involved into the electronic music scene, Pure Evil left San Francisco to spend four years in Berlin, working for a music production company named FAX. After this time, he missed London very much and decided to go back there. Once settled back in the English capital, first Pure Evil graffitis are seen on the streets. The artist meets the people involved with Banksy...
