About Claude Lafortune:
Claude Lafortune was born on July 5, 1936 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was an actor and art director, known for IXE-13 (1972), Pop Citrouille (1979) and Le carnaval des animaux (1978). He was previously married to Suzanne Côté. He died on April 19, 2020 in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada.
As a graduate of the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, Lafortune collaborated on many graphic design projects before he became famous for his paper art.
He had an exhibit devoted to his paper art work—titled Colle, papier, ciseaux—at the Musée des cultures du monde in Nicolet, Quebec. The exhibition has traveled to Longueuil, Montreal, Terrebonne, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Lachine, Chicoutimi, Bonaventure, La Malbaie...

Unframed with deckled edges
This five color lithograph on Dieu Donne hand made paper with deckled edges is pencil signed, dated and numbered from the limited edition of 84. This 1980s Robert Kushner print was created as part of the 1987 portfolio "The Ten Commandments", in which ten top Jewish American artists were each invited to choose an Old Testament commandment to interpret in contemporary lithographic form. The "Chosen" artists were, in order of Commandment: Kenny Scharf, Joseph Nechvatal, Gretchen Bender, April Gornik, Robert Kushner, Nancy Spero, Vito Acconci, Jane Dickson, Judy Rifka and Richard Bosman. This is the first time the print will have been removed from the original portfolio case. (shown). Lisa Liebmann, who wrote the introduction to the collection, observed: "...The image has, for most of us, replaced the word..." With respect to the present work, she writes, "There is a sweet smell of nostalgia to Robert Kushner's view of the FIFTH COMMANDMENT, to honor one's parents. Kushner's subtly ornate use of colors suffuses his subject with a filagreed texture of warmth. In this gentle icon, the traditional duo - all those Ozzies and Harriets in our hearts and on the airwaves -are frames as if by a bubble bath of affection."

Excellent black and white lithograph depicting the portrait of the great Italian author and poet Francesco Petrarca. The figure is in pose and express a great magniloquence and monumentality with a refined and elegant stroke.
Henri Grévedon (Paris, 1776 - Paris, 1860). Grévedon studied painting in the Parisian workshop of Jean-Baptiste Regnault, professor of painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Henri Grévedon exhibited from 1798 to 1806 and received a second medal in 1790. He was a first class gold medal in 1805 and won the first prize of the torso in 1806. He competed without success for the Prix de Rome in 1805 and 1806. According to Henri Beraldi, he "traveled the world, going to seek success in Russia in 1806 where he became an associate of the Academy of Saint Petersburg. He stayed in Stockholm in 1812, then in London, finally retured to Paris in 1816. Soon he devoted himself completely to lithography, and found there a reputation which would not have come to him with painting". He executed many painted portraits, paintings and miniatures, then he drew directly on the lithographic stone, working in particular for the workshop of Charles Motte during the 1820s. At the Salon of 1824, he won for the second time a gold medal for first class. Penfield created this poster to publicize Bigelow’s lengthy history of the Germanic people, serialized in the Monthly as “the first popular interpretation ever given to the rehabilitation of Germany through the uprising of the German people against the Napoleanic invasion.” July’s number began the series, which was published by Harper and Brothers as a two-volume set in 1896.

The magazine Harper's, issue of July, confronts the problems of The German Struggle for Liberty. Shown a German soldier in a helmet and armed with a rifle stands tall, and yet an uneasiness appears on his face. At a closer look, one will notice that not only does the soldier grasp his rifle in support, but in despair.
This Harper's July is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed. An restored fold mark across the middle of the image keeps this image from being rated higher (for an original 1895 poster).

Leonard Baskin (August 15, 1922 – June 3, 2000) was an American sculptor, illustrator, wood-engraver, printmaker, graphic artist, writer and teacher.
Baskin was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. While he was a student at Yale University, he founded Gehenna Press, a small private press specializing in fine book production. From 1953 until 1974, he taught printmaking and sculpture at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Subsequently Baskin also taught at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
He lived most of his life in the U.S., but spent nine years in Devon at Lurley Manor, Lurley, near Tiverton, close to his friend Ted Hughes, for whom he illustrated Crow. Sylvia Plath dedicated Sculpto to Leonard Baskin in her famous work, The Colossus and Other Poems (1960).

His public commissions include a bas relief for the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and a bronze statue of a seated figure, erected in 1994 for the Holocaust Memorial in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
His works are owned by many major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the British Museum, the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Udinotti Museum of Figurative Art and the Vatican Museums. The archive of his work at the Gehenna Press was acquired by the Bodleian Library at Oxford, England, in 2009. The McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton, Ontario owns over 200 of his works (some religious and biblical), most of which were donated by his brother Rabbi Bernard Baskin.
