Medium: Offset Printed Punk flyer.
Dimensions: 8.5 x 11 inches.
Condition: Scattered small pin holes, minor signs of handling; minor staining; center fold line visible from the back side. In otherwise good overall vintage condition.

Further History:
Between the years 1978 and 1986 Raymond Pettibon (aka, Raymond Pettibon; St. Pettibone) produced a now historic amassment of graphic works for seminal Southern California punk bands such as Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys and The Subhumans. Published mostly by SST Records - founded by Pettibon's brother and Black Flag guitarist, Greg Ginn, these works shed valuable light on the origin and development of Pettibon’s thematic interests & style; not to mention his evolution into one of the most important artist’s of his generation.
Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist once said of Pettibon's early punk illustrations: "Before I knew what Black Flag was I remember walking around Hollywood and seeing Raymond's flyers and being like, 'What the fuck is that?'… Those flyers made me feel like something is going on and it's romantic and it's mysterious and it's heavy and I don't know what it is but I wanna know."
In February 2017, the New Museum New York presented 'A Pen of All Work,' a major solo exhibition of Pettibon’s work featuring 700 plus drawings from the 1960s to the present.

Raymond Pettibon
Raymond Pettibon was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1957, but spent his childhood in Hermosa Beach, California. After graduating from the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in economics, Pettibon received his BFA in 1977. His artistic career began to take off in the early 1980s. During this time, he produced album artwork and posters for many punk rock bands such as Black Flag and Sonic Youth.
Many of Pettibon’s prints, paintings and mixed media works incorporate harsh and equivocal text and imagery. While some of the text is borrowed, others are Pettibon’s original words. His style echoes that of comics and includes motifs from youth culture, politics, sports, and celebrity. While his early works were completed in black and white, often with the use of India ink, later in his career Pettibon began incorporating color in his use of paint, collage, watercolor, gouache, and pencil. He is known for his edgy one-liners and raw depiction of youth culture and the punk scene.
Pettibon’s most recent works critique contemporary controversies such as the Iraq War and American politics. Pettibon is currently living and working in New York City.

Offset Print; 8.5 x 11 inches.
Features Pettibon printed signure on the lower right.
Condition: Minor signs of handling and fading or yellowing; fold-lines and staple marks to upper & lower center (these were originally stapled together and mailed); in otherwise very good overall condition given age & medium.
Post-marked 1983 and hand addressed on verso. Rare.

About Raymond Pettibon (Americanb. 1957)
Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s.
