Modernist rigor and elegance are hallmarks fo Gachot Studios; principals Christine and John Gachot worked for some of the best talents in the business before launching their own full-service firm.
For the recently completed Shinola Hotel in Detroit, the duo custom-designed tailored seating in cozy toffee and caramel hues, which are echoed in soaring draperies and a blush wall color that foregrounds works from such artists as Nick Cave (whose Tornado, 2010, hangs over the sofa).
“The living room is a testament to Gachot’s commitment to designing on a conceptual scale,” says the pair. “We conceived this space not just as a hotel lobby lounge but as a true ‘living room for Detroit.'”
