On Our Radar: The Worn-In Handbag Trend, an Arthur Elgort Documentary and More

Here are the art and design happenings your fellow culture-vultures are buzzing about.

Legendary supermodels Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford and fashion editor Grace Coddington gathered together to discuss the magic of famed lensman Arthur Elgort for the recent documentary Arthur Elgort: Models & Muses. Thirty minutes outside Paris, in Noisy-le-Grand, 1stDibs seller Galerie Philia has mounted “Strates,” an exhibition that imbues works by Rick Owens, Studiopepe and Pietro Franceschini with a new resonance. Staged across two brutalist structures — a parking garage, designed by Jacques Kalisz, known as Mont d’Est and Ricardo Bofill’s Espaces Abraxas — the show will be on view through November 28.

For decades, Marilyn Minter has been creating provocative paintings, photographs and video work that depict femininity in both its glamorous and unsavory aspects. The new documentary Pretty Dirt explores her life and work with the help of her subjects and fellow artists, including Mickalene Thomas, Jeff Koons and Lizzo. Directed by Amanda Benchley, it will screen at the IFC Center on November 20, during DOC NYC.

From the runways to the resale market, worn-in handbags are all the rage, Harper’s Bazaar reports. Whether it’s a full-priced, slouchy new Chanel 2.55 from this season or a Birkin with a backstory, we like a trend that encourages owners to actually use their high-end bags.
