Early-to-mid-20th-century styles and creators are driving furniture and lighting trends, with an emphasis on modern pieces from the Art Deco and mid-century modern periods, and on designers like Charles and Ray Eames, Gio Ponti and George Nakashima.

1. Sofa 2. Mirror 3. Desk 4. Dining Table 5. Bench 6. Coffee Table
7. Console Table 8. Dining Chairs 9. Sideboard 10. Bed
(as measured by on-platform searches)

Art Deco
The luxe, glamour and exuberance of the Art Deco period continue to offer a welcome counterpoint to the minimalism favored in recent years. As a search term, Art Deco rose 10 positions year-over-year in Chairs, was 13th in overall Furniture and fell to number 3 in Lighting from its number-one position in 2023.

Murano Chandeliers
Identified in 1stDibs’ most recent Designer Trend Report as on track to become among the most popular vintage lighting choices, Murano chandeliers rose 12 positions year-over-year in overall Furniture searches and maintained its position as the fourth-most-searched Lighting term.

Togo Seating
The Togo seating collection by Michel Ducaroy is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, thanks to its versatile modularity and its increased visibility on social media. Celebrity fans include Lenny Kravitz, who has four cream Togo seats in his Paris home. Togo ascended 62 positions year-over-year in Chair searches.

Eames Lounge Chairs
As design items increasingly become luxury status symbols, a small selection of iconic pieces have begun to trend, a movement we have previously seen in fashion and accessories. Among the trending pieces is the legendary Eames lounge chair, originally released in 1956, which rose six positions year-over-year in overall Furniture searches.

Gio Ponti
Known as “the father of modern Italian design,” Gio Ponti developed a singular aesthetic that is well-suited to the current climate of decorative modernism. His name rose 8 positions year-over-year in overall Furniture searches, 4 in Chairs and 7 in Lighting.

George Nakashima
The highly refined craftsmanship of George Nakashima remains in high demand around the globe. His celebration of nature’s imperfections through the beauty of wood has only become more popular over the years. In 2024, Nakashima rose one position year-over-year in overall Furniture searches and 11 in Chairs.

Mid-Century Modern
Mid-century modernism (MCM) began its resurgence in the late 1990s. No longer confined to retro-themed rooms, it has become a design staple in homes, offices and public spaces, contributing a special blend of innovation and nostalgia. Mid-century Modern rose 18 positions year-over-year as a search term in Furniture, 20 positions as a search term in Lighting and 49 positions as a search term in Chairs.

Dining & Bar Seating
Seating defines an interior with an invitation to stay comfortable and connected. Dining chairs remained the number one Chairs search term in 2024. Counter Stools rose 13 positions year-over-year in overall Furniture searches, and in Chairs, Bar Stools rose 8 and Counter Stools 10.

Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau, with its flowing lines and botanical motifs, is fertile ground for buyers seeking flourishes rather than the more streamlined designs that have dominated in recent history. As an overall Furniture search term, Art Nouveau rose four positions.

Art

The top artists at 1stDibs are virtually all well-known blue-chip creators whose works have proved to be worthy investments of enduring value. In the art category, Impressionism stands out as a recent rising trend.

Top-Selling Artists of 2024

1. Salvador Dalí 2. Pablo Picasso 3. Hunt Slonem
4. Joan Miró 5. Marc Chagall
(as measured by orders)

Impressionism
Last year marked the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, and exhibitions around the world celebrated the occasion, from the Musée d’Orsay, in Paris, to Washington’s National Gallery. Impressionism saw 39 percent year-over-year growth and rose two positions in top Styles, to the number-three position for 2024.

Contemporary
Our top-selling style in this category, contemporary art is an eclectic mix of works produced from the 1970s onward, with many artists like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Shephard Fairey and Hunt Slonem transforming simple iconography into memorable images.

Jewelry

When it comes to jewelry, the masters reign supreme. Venerable American and European brands are the most trusted and coveted for their design, craftsmanship and quality, especially when precious gems are involved.

Top-Selling Jewelry Brands of 2024

1. Tiffany & Co. 2. Cartier 3. Van Cleef & Arpels
4. David Yurman 5. Bulgari
(as measured by orders)

Opals
Opals, with their internal fire and myriad colors, seem to reflect the gamut of shifting emotions. Orders for this multifaceted gem grew 32 percent year-over-year, and it moved up four positions to rank as one of the top five stones in 2024.

Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co. held its place as the top-selling recognizable brand, with orders growing 41 percent. Elsa Peretti’s creations for the storied house shot up eight positions year-over-year, possibly driven by recent streaming shows on Halston and Karl Lagerfeld that focused on this period of design history, as well as by a recent book on Peretti produced by Tiffany & Co.

Watches

In both searches and sales, heritage watch brands that offer legacy classics and impeccable workmanship continue to be standouts in this category.

Top-Selling Watch Brands of 2024

1. Rolex 2. Cartier 3. Omega 4. Patek Philippe 5. Baume & Mercier
(as measured by orders)

Rolex Datejust
In the Watch category, where Rolex rules, the Datejust is dominant. This classic design offers everyday functionality, a relatively accessible price point and a unisex appeal, thanks to more-modern proportions and a move away from dainty styles for women.

Handbags

Our handbag sales indicate that 1stDibs is a destination not just for everyday designer bags but for rare, limited-edition and highly collectible styles as well.

Top-Selling Handbag Brands of 2024

1. Hermès 2. Gucci 3. Chanel 4. Louis Vuitton
5. Christian Dior 6. Fendi 7. Prada 8. Bottega Veneta
9. Yves Saint Laurent 10. Goyard
(as measured by orders)

Hermès
With orders that grew 57 percent year-over-year, Hermès continued to outperform rivals hit hard by a slowdown in the wider luxury landscape. Top styles for the French maison, originally a leather saddlery, include Birkin, Kelly, Evelyne, Picotin and Herbag.

Bottega Veneta
Orders for Bottega Veneta grew 76 percent year-over-year. Notable styles driving this growth, including the Kalimero and the Andiamo, are associated with creative director Matthieu Blazy, whose tenure ended in 2024.

Red Handbags
Popularized on social media, the Unexpected Red Theory suggests that adding a red accent can enhance the aesthetic of a space and provide a dopamine hit. Perhaps this accounts for burgundy being a top color for Fall/Winter 2024 and for orders of red handbags growing 75 percent year-over-year.

Fashion

The ’90s and the early aughts are having a fashion moment, so it is unsurprising that the iconic designs of those who helmed top brands at that time — Lagerfeld, Galliano, Ford — saw a rise in popularity.

Top-Selling Fashion Brands of 2024

1. Hermès 2. Chanel 3. Christian Dior 4. Gucci
5. Yves Saint Laurent 6. Dolce & Gabbana 7. Prada
8. Roberto Cavalli 9. Alexander McQueen 10. Versace
(as measured by orders)

Tom Ford for Gucci
Proving that sexy never goes out of style, the 1997 fur Chubby by Tom Ford for Gucci was top in fashion sales for 2024. If the former Gucci designer were listed as an individual brand, his creations would land him at number 9 on our Top 10 list.

John Galliano for Dior
Galliano’s superb designs for Maison Margiela are shining a spotlight on his earlier work for Dior, Givenchy and his own line from the 1990s and early 2000s. His iconic newsprint dress for Christian Dior is our most-viewed item, with more than 200,000 views to date. If his work under Dior were listed as an individual brand, it would land him at number 12 on our list.
