Few prints are as classic as gingham. And as the weather heats up, the summery pattern feels just right, an opinion seemingly shared by a number of celebrities, who have recently stepped out in gingham looks.
Who What Wear suggests that the current craze for the print was sparked by Margot Robbie, who appeared in a custom three-piece pink gingham Prada outfit during the Barbie press tour back in 2023. A similar pattern popped up in Miu Miu’s Autumn/Winter 2025 collection, bringing a touch of color and pattern to an otherwise neutral look. More recently, And Just Like That . . . actor Kristin Davis was seen in a very Charlotte York gingham top. Meanwhile, Davis’s castmate Sarah Jessica Parker was photographed sporting two gingham dresses in the same week, including a Wizard of Oz–esque Lena Hoschek design. And Cynthia Erivo wore a Maison Margiela gingham shirt with a sheer top layer that gave a bit of edge to the preppy pattern.
All of which goes to show, the gingham trend is open to everyone, whatever their fashion bent — preppy or far from it. Pieces like this ruffle-collared Isabel Marant shirt lean into the playfulness of the pattern, while this structured Alexander McQueen shirt, with its hint of severity, pleasantly subverts our expectations for it. Finally, those who really love gingham can always opt for a two-piece Comme des Garçons Lumps and Bump look.
