October’s Most Popular Interiors on Instagram

Our feed is filled with the world's most beautiful spaces. See the 10 our followers have deemed the best of the best this month.

The past few months, our followers have been drawn to pared-down, neutral spaces that radiate serenity. October, however, saw a move in a more maximalist, old-world direction. Prime example: Dylan Farrell Design‘s opulent yet whimsical Sydney, Australia, girl’s room, which is chock-full of one-of-a-kind antiques.

As always, there are exceptions to the trend. One mold breaker this month is Sasha Adler Design’s Chicago dining room, which boasts only three pieces of furniture. Here, we take a look at October’s 10 most-liked interiors on Instagram.

For that top-of-the-world feeling, what better setting than a lofty apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows? @sashaadlerdesign crafted the interiors of this Chicago high-rise home to ensure that the skyline view remained center stage, arranging demure pieces like a custom table, 1960s Italian chairs and a vintage chandelier she found in Paris on the wide plank, hand-scraped wood flooring. The design had to be kid-friendly as well, so performance-grade upholstery was essential — and the blue mohair dining chairs fit the bill. Photo by Werner Straube

How do you transform a windowless box into a magical space? If you’re @palmerweiss, you partner with artist Willem Racke to create dramatic floor-to-ceiling eglomise panels inspired by Henry Rousseau paintings and old images of the Congo. Weiss, a master of mixing eras, added an antique giltwood Louis Philippe mirror flanked by Urban Electric Co. sconces. This Tribeca apartment gives new meaning to “lofty goals.” For @andrewfranzarchitect, the goal (and challenge) was to create a sense of intimacy in the expansive apartment. “The volume of the space meant that everything needed to be large scale so as not to feel diminutive,” he says. His solution: a giant custom sofa and a coffee table whose top segments pivot open to span up to 10 feet, ensuring plenty of room for hors d'oeuvres — and cocktails, of course. Seeking to improve the flow from room to room in this Sag Harbor Greek Revival and infuse each space with light, @form_ation opened up the home’s cramped floor plan. In the living area, the design team took inspiration from old seaside hotel lobbies, playing with designs from different eras to create an amicable eclecticism. Multiple styles layered within a single space is a @bennettleifer signature. In this Upper West Side living room, Leifer combined de Gournay Plum Blossom wallpaper, a marbled rug from Fort Street Studio and a custom armchair à la Harvey Probber, then added bolder pieces, like the Kim Jae-Il painting, to disrupt the medley’s muted romanticism — in the most stylish way possible, of course. “I had poolside days, popsicle sunsets, French rosé and cotton candy in mind while designing this space in Australia,” says @dylan_farrell_design, explaining his transformation of a nursery into a young girl’s bedroom. Farrell infused the space with soft, feminine serenity, courtesy of the 19th-century Louis XVI–style daybed, fluffy sheepskin rug and fabulously frilly Hollywood Regency ostrich feather palm. We’re way into this novel take on the “necessary” room. @esteestanley, known for keeping vibrant hues at bay, threw color caution to the winds in this bathroom in her Los Angeles home, covering the walls in Hancock x @thecartorialist forest green Mooner paper.
