Thanksgiving hasn’t arrived yet, but TikTok is already getting decorated for the winter holidays. If our For You Page is any indication, this year in homes across the country, Christmas cheer is being made manifest in the most traditional fashion. Pine garlands, red-velvet ribbons and plaids abound in a look dubbed “Ralph Lauren Christmas.” You’ll spot more than a few teddy-bear motifs in these living- and dining-room schemes too.
As the New York Times reports, it isn’t simply about buying Christmas decorations from Ralph Lauren. Many shoppers are emulating the American designer’s classic decor style using bargain finds or vintage pieces. It’s another trend powered by a yearning for the past, “With this whole resurgence of nostalgia, a minimalist Christmas doesn’t go with that,” designer Sara Parker told the Times. “That’s why these rich Ralph Lauren colors are more appealing, because they kind of go more in tune with traditionalism.”
Regardless of your home’s year-round furnishing style, the holiday season is a time to conjure coziness. And traditional decor definitely accomplishes that. Why not bring out a plaid throw, add some ribbon to the tree and go with a classic Christmas color palette for this year’s decorating?
