Ralph Lauren Furniture
There’s no name that conjures a certain vision of preppy Americana quite like Ralph Lauren’s does. Although the fashion designer might be best associated with polo shirts and other classic sportswear, his eponymous brand is also known for world-class furniture. Ralph Lauren is a force in interior design.
As Ralph Lifshitz transformed from working as a sales assistant at Brooks Brothers to Ralph Lauren, a global arbiter of style outfitting the country’s most famous faces (his costumes for the 1974 version of The Great Gatsby, starring Robert Redford, marked a pivotal moment in the ascension of his brand), there was hardly a genre he didn’t touch: The Ralph Lauren name has graced mens- and womenswear, fragrance, accessories and home goods.
In the home-goods category, which spans furniture, lighting and more, Ralph Lauren the brand channels some of the preppy Americana nostalgia associated with its fashion equivalent — think wood grain, blue-and-white stripes, leather trunks — but also looks abroad.
Home furnishings from Ralph Lauren run the gamut from English-country style — plenty of tufted chesterfields and handsome wood tables — to Art Deco–influenced glamour to breezy pieces inspired by beachside locales. (Rattan and bamboo are common.) The furniture often takes cues from 18th-century antiques or reproductions and frequently has the worn-in look of vintage furniture. Luxe materials like mahogany, brass and leather abound.
In addition to furniture and accessories from Ralph Lauren’s own label, the designer has released furnishings with Henredon, tableware with Wedgwood and lighting with Visual Comfort (a partnership that continues today).
