Paul Burlin Art

American, 1886-1969
Paul Burlin was born in New York in 1886. He received his early education in England before returning to New York at the age of twelve. He worked for a short time as an illustrator under Theodore Dreiser at Delineator magazine, where he was exposed to Progressivist philosophy and politics. He soon grew tired of commercial work and enrolled at the National Academy of Design. There, he received a formal education and refined his technical skills; though he later dropped out to pursue his artistic studies more informally with a group of fellow students. He was also a frequent visitor at Alfred Steiglitz’s ‘291’ gallery. Burlin achieved a great deal of early artistic success. He visited the Southwest for the first time in 1910. Paintings from this visit were received warmly in New York and exhibited in a 1911 exhibition. As a result of his early success, he (and Randall Davey) were the youngest artists (at twenty-six years of age) to participate in the 1913 Armory Show – the revolutionary exhibition of avant-garde European work that can be credited with introducing modern art to the United States and stimulating the development of modernism in America. There, Burlin’s work was exhibited alongside works by such artists as Picasso, Monet, Cézanne, and Duchamp.

Israeli Modern Pop Art Photo Silkscreen Serigraph Abstract Paint Sheep Kadishman
By Menashe Kadishman
Located in Surfside, FL
Menashe Kadishman was born in Tel-Aviv in 1932. He is a Graduate of St. Martin's School of Art, University of London Studies with Anthony Caro, Reg Butler. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he remained until 1972. He had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968). In 1995, he began painting portraits of sheep. These instantly-recognizable sheep portraits...

Limited Edition Blue Ceramic Plate
By Louise Bourgeois
Located in New York, NY
Louise Bourgeois Limited Edition Ceramic Plate depicting Malloreddus alla Sarda, Dallas Texas, 1998 Ceramic Plate 10 in diameter Edition 155/1000 (read description; the edition was not completed) Unframed (Stand shown is not included) Makes a memorable gift! This striking, rare limited edition, signed and numbered bowl/plate was handmade in southern Italy by master artisans near Vietri sul Mare. It was designed by renowned American artist Louise Bourgeois. From the late 1990s through the millenium, Buon Ricordo America, Inc. commissioned famous artists, including Bourgeois to design plates for their flagship restaurants as special one-time only charitable fundraiser. The restaurant chosen for this plate was Pomodoro in Dallas. The editions were never completed, so the numbers of examples - in this case 1,000 - is deceptive because only a few hundred were actually created in the first run. They were never mass marketed, and the restaurants did not do well publicizing or selling them. Unfortunately, in 2001 the project ended after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which also affected many of the company's restaurants. No more examples were created, leaving the editions unfinished. The plate was made in conjunction with Buon Ricordo America, Inc., an offshoot of the Italian restaurant...
