A native of Fort Worth, Marie Friedman Berger was born March 9, 1913, the daughter of Will and Minnie Cohen Friedman. She was a graduate of Central High School, now R. L. Paschal, and attended Washington University, St. Louis School of Art. Marie married Jack Henry Berger on June 21, 1939, in Dallas; a marriage that lasted nearly 61 years. Mr. Berger died in 2000. Marie was an internationally renowned artist. Her works have been published by the Metropolitan Art Gallery of New York and shown as one of America's only artists in Italian art galleries. She was a recipient of the annual Benedictine Art Award. For many years she worked along side her late husband operating the Fashion Furniture Gallery on Camp Bowie Blvd.
Marie Berger was a longtime member of Beth-El Congregation and she was also a full member of the Texas Fine Arts Association (Regional Director) and the Texas Watercolor Society. Among the awards presented to her for her art were the Benedictine Award, New York, and the Texas Fine Arts Jurors Award. She also owned and managed the Marie Berger Gallery, Fort Worth, which promoted the works of many rising American and Mexican artists during the 1950's and 1960's. She studied at Texas Christian University, and then at the St. Louis School of Fine Art and at Washington University, Missouri, which was founded as the Saint Louis School and Museum of Fine Arts in 1879 as part of Washington University in St. Louis. Her most common media is the use of oil, acrylic, watercolor, etching, lithograph, collagraph. During her successful career, she exhibited internationally at such institutions as the Bateau Lavar Gallery, Rome, the Rassagna permanente d'arte contemporanea, Veterbo, Italy, the Laguna Gloria, Austin, Texas, the Oklahoma Art...

André Hambourg was born in Paris on May 5, 1909. Entering the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in 1926, he studied sculpture under Paul Niclausse for four years. The young artist then entered the studio of Lucien Simon at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. While in the middle of his academic studies, Hambourg had his debut solo exhibition at the Galerie Taureau in Paris in 1928. He was only 19 years old at the time. Because of the early recognition of his talent, Hambourg became active in the important Paris salons in the first stages of his developing career. In 1931, he was made a member of the Salon de l’Art Français Indépendant and the Salon de l’Oeuvre Unique.
André Hamburg was demobilized in Casablanca in 1940, but then civilian by the regiment of engineers in 1943, then called by Raoul Salan and assigned to the 2nd Bureau where he became editor, draftsman, reporter of the newspaper "Combattant 1943" then "Combattant 1944 He was named in December 1944 war correspondent accredited to the US HQ (SHAPE), his military experience (being in the first to have reached the nest He wrote two books in 1947: "Berchtesgaden party" and "D'Alger à Berchtesgaden". In an interview he wrote an account of his experience in "La kermesse aux étoiles" in 1953 and 1954, of which he was the organizer, of cheap sales of works by renowned artists in front of the Kermesse public for 3 days and 3 nights. He wrote in the newspaper "Cols bleus" of the Navy souvenirs ("4 July 1943", whose oil on paper will be offered by President Mitterrand to President Reagan) or travel.
The entire work of the artist will be the subject of numerous books, publications, articles, interviews of José Arthur, Michel Law, Jacques Chancel and Micheline Sandrel.
In 1970 five hundred of his works formed a prestigious retrospective at the Maison de Culture in Bourges. Other notable shows include Drawings of Venice...

Michael Posner Baxte was born in 1890 in the small town of Staroselje Belarus, Russia. For the first half of the 19th century, it was a center of the Chabad movement of Hasidic Jews, but this group was gone by the middle of the 19th century. By the time the Baxte family immigrated to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, the Jewish population numbered only on the hundreds. The native language of the Baxte family was Yiddish. It is likely that the death of Michael Baxte’s father triggered the family’s immigration. Three older brothers arrived in New York between 1903 and 1905. Michael and his mother, Rebecca, arrived in 1907. By 1910 Michael, his mother, and brother, Joseph, were living in New Orleans and may have spent some time on a Louisiana plantation. Around 1912, Michael Baxte returned to Europe to study the violin. In 1914 he, his mother, and Joseph moved to New York City.
Meanwhile, in Algeria, a talented young woman painter, Violette Mege, was making history. For the first time, a woman won the prestigious Beaux Art competition in Algeria. At first, the awards committee denied her the prize but, with French government intervention, Mege eventually prevailed. She won again 3 years later and, in 1916, used the scholarship to visit the United States of America. When Violette came to New York, she met Baxte, who was, by then, an accomplished violinist, teacher, and composer. Baxte’s compositions were performed at the Tokyo Imperial Theater, and in 1922 he was listed in the American Jewish Yearbook as one of the prominent members of the American Jewish community. As a music teacher, he encouraged individual expression. Baxte stated, “No pupil should ever be forced into the imitation of the teacher. Art is a personal experience, and the teacher’s truest aim must be to awaken this light of personality through the patient's light of science.”
By 1920 Michael Baxte and Violette Mege were living together in Manhattan. Although they claimed to be living as husband and wife, it seems that their marriage did not become official until 1928. On their “unofficial” honeymoon around 1917, in Algiers, Baxte confided to her his ambition to paint. There and later in New Mexico where the wonderful steeped sunlight approximates the coloring of Algiers, she taught him his heart’s desire. He never had any other teacher. She never had any other pupil. For ten years she devoted all her time, energy, and ambition to teaching, encouraging, inspiring him. Then in 1928, their mutual strivings were rewarded, as his works were being chosen as one of the two winners in the Dudensing National Competition for American Painters. Inspired by whimsey and purity of the feminine form, Cindy Shaoul is known for her impressionistic and abstract style. Johann Berthelsen was born in Copenhagen in 1883, the 7th of seven children, to Conrad and Dorothea Karen Berthelsen. His parents were involved in artistic and professional circles. In 1890, his mother brought the children to America, settling in Manistee, Michigan, with her sister's family. They would eventually move to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, a city on the shore of Lake Michigan. As a teenager, Johann was actively involved in choirs and singing groups. And he always loved to draw and paint, and while he was too impatient to take well to schoolwork, and never went beyond the 5th grade.
Although he worked in several trades, Johann's mind and heart were always with the arts. As his voice matured, he also always wanted to be an actor, and at the age of 18 moved to Chicago where he reconnected with an old friend who was studying voice at the Chicago Musical...
