'THE GOLF COURSES OF GREAT BRITIAN' is the follow up to Darwin's original book fifteen years on from 'THE GOLF COURSES OF THE BRITISH ISLES, DESCRIBED BY BERNARD DARWIN, PAINTED BY HARRY ROWNTREE'. A very well produced first edition golf book, F.G. Tait "A Record, being his life, letters & golfing diary" The book was published in three bindings: in both red and green decorative cloth and in red decorative vellum. This is a hard bound copy with the original red cloth cover with gilt title to front with a gilt image of a golf bag and clubs with a sword. Spine with gilt title 'F.G. Tait "A Record", J.L.Low, Nisbet & Co.'. The cover in reasonable condition for age (see images) all 304 pages are there, printed in London. Illustrated with 16 plates (with tissue-guards) from photographs, including frontispiece photogravure portrait of Tait with facsimile autograph. A good copy, some light foxing and staining to some pages. All profits from original sales of this book were donated to the Black Watch Widows' and Orphans' Fund. Edited by John L. A wonderful example of an early auto caddy by George Bussey. This is a rare find indeed as very few of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. The caddie has a boxwood carry handle and the main body of the caddie is made of mahogany. The boxwood handle is attached to the oak legs via metal rods and a brass mechanism. With this clever design the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, they will then fold back in when lifted up. The canvas & leather bag for golf balls and the half pencil bag to the bottom of the stand are the original bags (flap is a replacement). The caddie stand is stamped with Bussey's name on the brass mechanism, and on both legs. There is a brass embossed trade label "Geo. A rare circular football trade card in the shape of a leather football ball. Made by the toy shop owner from Bradford, John Baines. Baines went on to produce not only football cards but eventually covered scores of different sports, from golf, cricket, tennis to horse racing and bowls, and just about any kind of sporting affiliations in just about every city, town and village in the UK. The cards were promoted in various prize competitions like finding certain "medal cards", collection a certain amount of empty packets. One could always submit a mini essay on sport with the winner having their writing printed on the backs of the cards. Hence why the backs are so varied and different.
The Baines card offered for sale is printed in a red tone with a picture of two football players, one on the ground having just tried to tackle his opponent, to the front with the words 'Well Played, Knottingley Road Walk'.
