An adorable cherub invites us to hop on the ferry from Dover to holiday in Belgium. At just three hours of travel time, it’s a quick and easy way to cross the English Channel.
A halo with the wording Holiday rests on her head, where white wings allow her to float in the air with her set of golf clubs and to hold onto her luggage. Come to Belgium by Dover Ostend ferry.
The sky is a baby blue, and her dress is dark blue. She is looking back as she flies along. You can see that her feet appear to be backward as she starts to land, but this is because she has turned her head to look back, maybe to make sure her wings are fully extended for the journey.

TWA (Trans World Airlines) was formed in 1924 as Transcontinental & Western Air. The airline's first route was from New York to Los Angeles, followed by multiple National routes. The airline expanded to serve Europe, the Middle East, and Asia after WWII when the company was under Howard Hughes's owner's control from 1939 until 1961. Hughes was a dominant force in expanding and promoting his company's routes. The economy was vastly improving, and travel by air for business and pleasure increased, too. Posters were a crucial element in promoting this form of travel and TWA. The airline started a decline in the 1970s, ending in a third bankruptcy that caused its acquisition by American Airlines in 2001. The airline operated in 132 destinations worldwide and had a fleet size of 190.
This Rome poster was created by the gifted American artist David Klein (1918 -2005), and depicts a member of the Pontifical Swiss Guard in the center wearing the iconic yellow, blue, and red uniform. The Gladiator Cycle Company, Clément-Gladiator (from 1896), was a French manufacturer of bicycles.
The inside of all of the bicycle rims are done in gold or gold foil. Gold is also used in the flowers around the big ring that reads Gladiator. It doesn’t appear that this early bicycle had any brakes, so she may need that angel resting on her shoulder!
Fold marks restored during linen backing, ready to frame.
There is some waves at the bottom right, but no paper loss or damage. Antique bicycle posters have been and will be very collectible. This original Gaston Noury original stone lithograph is now challenging to find in any condition.
