"Gouache, tempera, and colored pencil on paper From the October Series This series consists of works on paper that I made last October while I was in residence at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. It was a beautiful time of year and of course I was inspired by the foliage and the leaf color transformation in particular. These drawings/paintings are layered color pencil and paint and there are many layers . These pieces are nature-landscape inspired and the colors create a contrast of vivid pigment with the frosted effect of the paint that is reminiscent of fog in early mornings with the vivid changing colors of the trees."
About the Artist:
Hollie Heller is a multifaceted artist who divides her time between New York City and Costa Rica. Her masterful works are largely inspired by materials collected on her travels. Heller’s knowledge of design, textiles and weaving allow her to make the most of the materials she finds. Although steeped in said traditional methods of making, she is constantly experimenting and testing the limits of ordinary materials. Heller has been teaching surface design and collage for over twenty years, her students provide a wealth of inspiration for her. About the Artist:
Karen Reid is an artist known as K.Marie. She is originally from London, England and has been living in the United States for over twenty years. She now resides in Florida with her two daughters. Karen grew up in a historical environment exposed to a fusion of all kinds of art forms like music, dance, sculptures, and paintings. Using her gift, she took part in dance, singing, and poetry, but the only thing she did not partake in was painting and drawing. She appreciated it but she never believed that it was an ability she had. Fast-forward just last year May 2021 her friend - artist Shante Brooks gave her art materials and encouraged her to paint. Facing her fears, she painted and grew more comfortable as time went on and was able to turn a blank canvas into a masterpiece. The upbeat and perky vibe is conveyed through a mix of media, including Caran D'ache Neopastels, oil bars, graphite, and acrylic paint in shades of blue-green, yellow ochre, and warm and cool grays, punctuated with pops of black. It can be hung in any direction and serves as a bright and uplifting addition to any home or office. The creation of this piece was inspired by the artist's own unfinished paintings, which they felt stuck on. Instead of getting frustrated, they took a chance and cut out the parts they liked best, using their vintage Singer sewing machine...
