About the Item

abstract 40/40 40 x 40 x 3 inches. 22 lbs Encaustic Paint Hand signed. by the artist Artist's Commentary: "My work is very much inspired by Moroccan textile design... how geometric shapes tell life stories. The ancient technique of encaustic, painting with beeswax, lends itself to this narrative in a very organic, personal way and allows me to build up layer upon layer of wax to create a more sculptural feel. I just love how the painting wraps itself around the panel... this, combined with a 3" depth, gives the piece a presence that is intended to affect the space powerfully and authentically in its subtlety." About the artist: American Michele Renée Ledoux is best known for using fire + wax to create primarily black and white, contemporary abstract paintings using the ancient technique of encaustic, most known for its vibrant colors. The work has a heavy sculptural aspect, features uneven surfaces, cuts, cracks and chips; and often incorporates recycled material. The work is neutral in palette, architectural in style and organic in process and texture. Ledoux’s work is held in numerous private collections and has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally, garnering multiple “Best of Show” awards. Selected Exhibitions include: - Smithsonian Craft, Washington, D.C. - SOFA Chicago - Architectural Digest, NYC - Philadelphia Museum of Art
