This work by artist Anne Ierardi strikes a balance between the rich, yet subdued, colors of an expressionist painting by someone like Henri Matisse, and the color forward abstraction of an artist like Hans Hofmann. A golden yellow competes against a light grassy green to assert dominance in this nearly square composition. Small accents of deep blue, light cream, soft purple, and rich red add punches of energy to the work.
Artist Commentary
Study in Green expresses my feelings for the beauty of nature and the possibilities that openness and the color green shows. I often paint with music as it brings forward my deepest desires for life.
About the Artist
Anne Ierardi is a painter and writer. Anne studied fine arts in Boston, California, Florence, and Provincetown. Influenced by expressionist artists including Matisse and Gauguin, she creates abstracts of the inner landscape, as well as the landscapes on Cape Cod. She sees her work as a “landscape of the imagination” beckoning viewers to enter their own inner spaces. Anne created a series of women jazz singers. Her latest portrait of Nina Simone appeared in a juried show at the Cape Museum of Art. Her memoir "Coming Alive" was published by Shanti Arts in 2022 with stories about her life as artist and ordained minister. Anne illustrated the book, Walking with Grief: A Healing Journey with 21 paintings.
