Chinese Cloisonné Vase on Bronze with Phoenixes, 19th Century Qing period

About the Item

This is a very decorative Chinese cloisonné vase dating to the mid 19th Century, Qing period. The vase has a good baluster shape. It has been well made of a bronze alloy with rich enamels of many different colours, set into a black ground. The main decoration is detailed, having two different phoenixes to the main body within a floral black ground having stylised flowers in blue, pink, white and red with green leaves. There are various detailed and very colourful border patterns at the base, shoulder, neck and under the top rim. The phoenix bird symbolizes immortality, resurrection and life after death, and in ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology it is associated with the sun god. Overall a fine example of Chinese cloisonne.
