19th Century Chinese Cloisonné Vase with Dragon chasing pearl, Qing Period

About the Item

This is a very decorative small cloisonné vase, made in China and dating to the second half of the 19th Century, Qing period. The vase has a good globular baluster shape. It has been well made of a bronze alloy with rich enamels of many different colours, set into a turquoise - blue ground. The main decoration shows a 5-clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl with different detailed borders at the neck and above the base rim. A dragon chasing a pearl is a common image found in Chinese art with the pearl being a symbol of wisdom, spiritual energy and power and the dragon is the emblem of the emperor, representing prosperity and good luck. Overall a good antique cloisonne vase with a very good shape and decoration.
