Chinese Cloisonné Vase with three Dragons chasing a flaming pearl, Circa 1920s

About the Item

This is a very decorative mid size cloisonné vase, made in China and dating to the Chinese Republic period, Circa 1920's. The vase has a good baluster shape. It has been well made of a bronze alloy with rich enamels of many different colours, set into a brick red ground. The main decoration shows THREE 5-clawed dragons, all chasing a single flaming pearl from different angles, with a lappet border at the neck and a different wave border above the base rim, all in good detail. A dragon chasing a pearl is a common image found in Chinese art with the pearl being a symbol of wisdom, spiritual energy and power and the dragon is the emblem of the emperor, representing prosperity and good luck. The base has a feint makers mark. Overall a good and very decorative cloisonne vase.
