Japanese Cloisonné Vases Butterflies & Flowers, 19th Century Meiji Period, Pair

About the Item

These are a very decorative pair of cloisonné vases, made in Japan and dating to the 19th Meiji Period, circa 1875. The vases have a good baluster shape with a circular form. They have been well made of a bronze alloy with rich enamels of many different colors. The main decoration is detailed having oval panels, different on either side, with flowers and butterflies, set into a black ground and surrounded by a white outer ground, set with other flower heads. There are borders above the base rim and around the neck with an additional detailed shoulder lappet border. These are very beautifully decorated vases and display very well despite some old shoulder damage, that is not easy to see.
