Copper Red Brushpot, Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Mark

About the Item

This porcelain brush pot, crafted on a white body, is delicately decorated with copper red (hongcai 紅彩), depicting a figure in traditional attire amidst a landscape of pine trees, rocks, and pavilions. The tranquil composition conveys a lyrical atmosphere, characteristic of classical East Asian aesthetics. The red tones, produced using a glaze containing manganese and copper oxides, remain relatively vivid and stable—an aspect that enhances the visual appeal and rarity of the piece. The painting’s refined composition and fine linework reflect the precision and sophistication typical of the Kangxi period (1662–1722). Signs of surface oxidation due to aging are visible, along with glaze drips near the lower section, likely a result of the firing process. On the base, a four-character reign mark reading Kangxi nian zhi (康熙年製), written in underglaze blue, is present.
