About the Item

Extraordinary Japanese contemporary museum-quality decorative porcelain vase, extremely intricately hand-painted in dark brick orange, purple, green and yellow on a beautifully shaped porcelain body, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist of Japan’s Imari-Arita region. The artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist's profile is available upon request. The old elaborate technique showcased on this piece combines different elements of extremely intricate painting that showcases a dense mosaic of extremely intricate patterns created by finely drawn lines of gold and produces a mesmerizing dream-like illusion of a “transparent” canvas, creating a beautiful palette with layers of transparent colors and depth that are flawlessly organic and make the viewer wonder about the sequence of the artist’s work on this piece. The technique involves numerous challenges at different stages of painting as well as firing. For this reason and the enormous amount of time needed to create one piece, this technique is rarely used by today’s porcelain artists. The body of the vase serves as a canvas for a scene of stunning wisterias in full bloom presented in purple and peach and elegant vines, gracefully hanging to decorate the surface of this magnificent piece on an intricate seamless geometric background in brick orange. Lovely birds in blue and green are in flight above this stunning scene. The upper part of the body in a stunning purple background is adorned with dramatic chrysanthemums in yellow, creating a beautiful contrast. “Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. This exquisite gilded porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 14 in D 11.5 in
