Green Orange Gold Porcelain Vase by Contemporary Japanese Artist

About the Item

Mesmerizing large contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain vase, extremely intricately hand painted in green, orange and gold, a breathtaking masterpiece by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist of the Imari-Arita region of Japan and recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional application of gold and platinum on porcelain. This old elaborate technique combines different elements of extremely intricate painting that showcases a dense mosaic of extremely intricate patterns created by finely drawn lines of gold and produces a mesmerizing dream-like illusion of a “transparent” canvas, creating a beautiful palette with layers of transparent colors and depth that are flawlessly organic and make the viewer wonder about the sequence of the artist’s work on this piece. The technique involves numerous challenges at different stages of painting as well as firing. For this reason and the enormous amount of time needed to create one piece, this technique is rarely used by today’s porcelain artists. The artist’s profile is available upon request. This unique large porcelain vase in brilliant green and orange with intricate gold details features the highly auspicious dragon, and phoenix or ho-ho bird, bird of fire, the sun appearing as a bird. In Japanese mythology the dragon and phoenix are two of the most powerful of the four celestial animals. They often appear together. The celestial couple symbolizes a couple's marital bliss. It brings marital happiness and good fortune. it also symbolizes the imperial family, phoenix representing the empress and dragon representing the emperor. The vase showcases a dense mosaic of extremely intricate patterns created by finely drawn lines of gold. This produces a stunning dream-like illusion of a “transparent” canvas. To add to the elegance of the whole piece, the base and neck are decorated in a rich palette of black and various shades of orange, enhanced by the generous use of gold. "Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome over glaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. The artist's profile is available upon request. An elegant intricate pattern in bright red and gold surrounds the artist's signature on the reverse side of the vase. This extraordinary porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 13 in, D 13.5 in.
