A vibrant and meticulously hand-painted set of eight Chinese Export porcelain plates, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century, executed in the classic Rose Medallion pattern. Each plate measures approximately 8.125 inches in diameter and features an intricately reticulated rim highlighted in gold enamel, with reserves alternating between courtly figural scenes and richly detailed botanical motifs of peonies, birds, butterflies, and fruits, all framed within scrolling gilt borders and floral sprays.
The design exemplifies the finest qualities of the Rose Medallion tradition—a subcategory of Famille Rose porcelain produced in Canton (Guangzhou) for export, primarily during the Qing Dynasty, particularly under the Daoguang and Tongzhi reigns. The palette is dominated by green, pink, and coral enamels, with fine overglaze painting enhanced by gilded accents that enliven the pierced latticework borders.
The reverse shows unmarked bases typical of many 19th-century export wares, with kiln grit and glaze imperfections around the foot rims that support the dating. The pierced (reticulated) borders are a less commonly encountered and technically demanding form, often reserved for finer service wares or special commissions.
