About the Item
A gorgeous and quite striking four-panel Japanese Byobu folding screen featuring an elegantly clad Lady Murasaki, the Japanese novelist, (and famed author of the classic "Tale of Genji") poet and lady-in-waiting at the Imperial court in the Heian period. The vibrant, rich colors, gold leaf, and beautiful hand-painted detail of her flowing kimono (comprised of various prints, hues, and patterns) really makes this quite an attractive work.
Original decorative period brass hardware adds another wonderful touch.
Signed (in black ink) and sealed (in red) by the artist.
Likely from the mid to late Showa period (1926-1989).
A very beautiful and engaging work. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art/screen collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in almost any setting whether used as a room divider or hung on the wall as a work of art.

A delightful Japanese six panel painted paper screen featuring the beloved figure Hotei, Edo Period, early 19th century.
