Japanese Two Panel Screen: Kimono
About the Item
Beautiful 19th century shibori (pin dyed) fabric in kimono form mounted on a simple ground of mulberry paper. Black lacquer trim with beautifully designed bronze mounts. The fabric is c.1825. Similar examples shown in Tokeyo National Museum. Shibori, prior to c.1900 was hand dyed. It was outlawed around turn of the century as it was hazardous to the makers health because the process of pins and dye.
