About the Item
A wonderfully composed and subtly colored woodblock print by renowned Japanese woodblock artist Okiie Hashimoto (1899-1993) titled "Snow Hill #7". The work features a gorgeous wood grain sky pattern, wonderful composition and use of negative space, and beautiful use of mica to accentuate the frozen snow/ice in the foreground.
The print is sealed in red ink, hand pencil signed, titled (in Japanese), numbered (28/70), and dated (1968) by the artist.
Would be a fantastic addition to any Japanese or Asian art/print collection or an eye-catching stand-alone accent work in about any setting. A very scarce and rare image.
Hashimoto's work can be found in various museums and collections worldwide including:

Okiie Hashimoto
Okiie Hashimoto was born on October 4, 1899, in Japan. He pursued a classical study of art and painting for four years, graduating in 1923 from the College of Art in Tokyo. Then, Hashimoto continued his studies under Itaru Tanabe and Shodo Hirata. His artistic style emerged decisively after having met the renowned woodcut artist Unichi Hiratsuka. He had attended Hiratsuka's courses and was later accepted into his circle of artists, the Yoyogi-ha. Through this group, he developed a lifelong friendship with Hiratsuka.

By Kiyoshi Saitō

A beautifully composed woodblock print by famed Japanese printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. Many consider Saito to be one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary Japanese printmakers of the 20th century. This print, which is titled "Daitoku-ji Kyoto (D)" is from a series of Kyoto temple images that Saito created. The woodblock print features strong, contrasting colors, beautiful wood grain, and a complex design - the cross-shaped walkway pattern which is highlighted by the small precisely placed stones is repeated on the temple wall. The wood grain in the yard, temple walls and sky add another layer of compositional depth.
