Chinese Carved Boxwood Immortal Holding Child
About the Item
A fine quality antique Chinese late Qing boxwood carved figure of an Immortal holding a child and dating from around 1900. The figure, an elderly man, is dressed in a full length robe and wears a small flat top round hat. The figure is finely carved with wonderful facial detail and a beard which extends down to the ground. He holds a small child nestled and resting in the man’s folded left arm. The figure is not marked but has a wonderful natural aged patina.
Offered in good condition with light wear associated with age.
Provenance: From a wonderful and choice collection of small cabinet pieces many of which we are currently offering on 1stdibs. Acquired in the UK Art Market.
