XX Century Newfoundland Labrador Sculpture
Located in Lisboa, PT
The Newfoundland Labrador dog, commonly referred to as the Newfoundland or Newfie, is a large and strong breed known for its gentle and sweet nature. It originated from the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, where it was originally bred as a working dog for tasks such as hauling fishing nets, pulling carts, and rescuing people from water. Key characteristics of the Newfoundland breed include its massive size, with males typically weighing between 130-150 pounds (59-68 kg) and females between 100-120 pounds (45-54 kg). They have a thick double coat that is water-resistant, which helps them excel in water activities and also provides protection in cold climates. The coat can come in various colors, including black, brown, gray, and Landseer (white with black markings). Newfoundlands are known for their gentle and calm demeanor, making them excellent family pets and great with children. They are often described as "gentle giants" due to their patient and affectionate nature. Despite their size, they are generally good-natured and friendly with strangers and other animals. These dogs require regular grooming due to their thick coats, and they also need moderate exercise to stay healthy and happy. They enjoy activities like swimming, hiking, and participating in water sports. Additionally, early socialization and training are important to ensure they grow up to be well-behaved companions. Overall, the Newfoundland Labrador dog is a beloved breed known for its loyalty, gentle nature, and versatility in various roles, from family pet to working dog. The Fábrica de Cerâmica das Devesas (Devesas Ceramic Factory) was established in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1865 and was, at the time, one of the largest and best equipped producers of ceramics.[1] Founded by António Almeida e Costa...

Japanese Contemporary Red Blue Green Gold Porcelain Lucky Cat Sculpture, 2
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Exquisite Japanese Contemporary porcelain beckoning cat, a uniquely and intricately gilded and hand painted porcelain sculpture from the Kutani region of Japan. The cat raising his left paw is adorned with multiple golden medallions and is covered with raised loops characteristic of the Kutani “mori” style. While the origins of the Japanese beckoning cat are unclear, contemporary woodblock prints show they were being widely sold as good luck charms by the 1850s. The beckoning cat comes in two varieties. The more common right-handed beckoning cat (with right paw raised) is said to bring money and wealth to its owner, and are to this day frequently seen in shops and restaurants in Japan. The less common left-handed cat is said to be inviting friends and acquaintances to hearth and home. The “mori” style refers to raised loops and other decorative motifs applied by squeezing a tube of slip onto the body of the cat much like applying frosting to a cake. The cat boasts the traditional Kutani colors of bright green, red and yellow presented against an dark blue background, and is generously accentuated with gold. The red kerchief with a knotted amulet in the back and two bells on the side also identify this as a traditional Kutani piece, as do the perked ears turned outward. A stamp indicating it is produced in Kutani region of Japan appears at reverse side of this beckoning cat scultures...

XL Antique Alabaster Chandelier / Pendant w. Bronze Ram Sculptures & Rose Shades
Located in Lisse, NL
Majestic antique pendant with a stunning, 20 inch alabaster shade and two sets of glass shades. Thanks to its unique design, its impressive size and its truly excellent condition this six-light alabaster chandelier will light up both your days and evenings, both in summer and winter time. This antique light fixture could not be more original and it even comes with a set of three near-transparent glass roses shades AND a set of three amberish color glass roses shades (matching the alabaster). So you can always choose the type of glass rose shades that you think are best for the occasion, season etc. The superb condition, colorful, extra large and deep alabaster shade combined with the equally excellent glass roses are a match made in heaven. However, what takes this chandelier to the next level are the three large and gilt bronze ram sculptures at each of the three suspension points. May these meaningful symbols for determination, power and leadership inspire their new owner(s) to reach for the stars and beyond. The black veins combined with other color veins and patches in this natural mineral stone shade contrast even more beautiful when the light is switched on, because the already marvelous colorful alabaster then turns into an even warmer spectacle of colors. We could shoot a hundred photos, but you still would not be able to see the true beauty of this impressive chandelier. The unique patterns inside this hand carved shade are the work of mother nature herself and the light brings them out in their true glory. In real life our antiques always have that little bit extra and this stunning pendant is all but an exception to that rule. You can, again, take our word for it. The original and heavy gilt bronze chain and the stunning and large, gilt bronze canopy are like the icing on the cake of this incredibly rich chandelier. If you have also noticed the double rose pattern on each of the gilt bronze shackles then you must agree that whomever had this chandelier made clearly spared no expenses. And to give you an even better idea of the quality, the gilt bronze canopy alone weighs over 11 pounds lbs. To find this majestic chandelier in such excellent condition made our day, week and month and we are proud to be able to offer it to our 1stdibs clientele first. For our photos of this six-light chandelier we used three 75 watt bulbs inside the shade and one 60 watt bulb in each of the rose shades. This chandelier, however, will easily take three times 100 watts inside the shade and also easily 80 watts in each of the glass rose...
