Pair of Antique Japanese Imari Jars Meiji Period Circa 1880
Located in Katonah, NY
Both jars are hand-painted in traditional Imari designs. They feature beautiful waterside scenes painted in cobalt blue and two shades of iron red, all with gilded accents.
The colors are vibrant, and the scenes are complex.
One jar features a shoreline, while the other scene features a cresting wave.
Above the main scenes on each jar, there are medallions adorned with gilded floral decorations. Additionally, a ring of patterns inspired by Japanese textiles encircles the shoulder and base of each jar.
The hand-painted panels on the reverse side mirror the designs on the front but include many subtle variations.
On the side of each jar, there is a classic Imari depiction of a vase set on a garden terrace.
These exquisite pieces were crafted in Japan during the Meiji Period, around 1880.
Dimensions: 15" tall x 7" diameter at the widest point
Condition: Excellent.
Price: $2,800
Background of Late Imari Porcelain: Imari porcelains were first exported from Japan to Europe in the 17th century. In the third quarter of the 19th century, Imari porcelain found an eager export market in Europe as the style was compatible with the colors and designs of the oriental rugs used...

Large Contemporary Ceramic Tsubo Jar by Kai Tsujimura
Located in Atlanta, GA
A massive stoneware tsubo floor jar created by Japanese contemporary ceramic artist Kai Tsujimura (1976-). The heavy jar with its impressive volume was made in the tradition of Iga ware with local coarse sandy clay that turned reddish after the firing. It took its shape from heavy medieval storage jars with a wide-open mouth. For a nearly identical form, see an Echizen jar from Heian period (794–1185) in the collection of MET (Accession Number: 1977.261). The surface showcases scattered white crystalized feldspars and a green vitrified ash glaze cascade down the body (known as biidoro in Japanese - after the Portuguese word for glass vidoro). These is a globular shape impressed on the jar. It is a signature practice of the Tsujimura potter family by stacking bowls between the pieces in the kiln during the firing, resulting in an accidental but iconic aethetic (Kai and Yui Tsujimura...

A striking ceramic famille vert Eagle motif tea caddy with lid. This piece is in the Americana or Traditional English style. It is made of crisp white porcelain and is decorated with a rich green hand-painted design. The body features an Eagle with wings spread on both the front and back. The Eagle grasps a quiver of arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other. A banner across the bird's chest reads "Pluribus Unum". Chinese Ming Small Vase porcelain Wanli / Transitional Hatcher wreck, Ca 1625-40
By The Hatcher Collection
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a hand painted 17th century, late Ming dynasty, porcelain Jar or small Vase which we attribute to the Hatcher shipwreck cargo, this piece being from the Wanli /transitional period, circa 1625- 1640.
The Jar/ Vase is fairly thickly potted with a very white glaze to the porcelain.
It is decorated with a man and a boy stood against a tree with rocks, mountains and flying bats in the background all hand painted in various shades of a clear under-glaze cobalt blue. The irregular shaped head, bald high forehead, and straight pencilled beard with moustache support this date and period.
Notes: The Hatcher Cargo...
