"Roman and Greek Myths, " Fabulous Gilded Bronze Urn with Multiple Male Nudes
By Ferdinand Levillain
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Teeming with male nudes and mythological scenes illustrating stories such as Diogenes' search for an honest man, and Romulus and Remus' role in the birth of Rome, this rare bronze urn was sculpted by Ferdinand Levillain, France's master of bas relief at the turn of the last century. Levillain was famous for his low reliefs in medallic work and finely-detailed bronze objects, and was greatly admired in his day for giving a modern interpretation to Greek and Roman subjects. This stunning gilded bronze urn...

Empire Style Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Napoleon Vase
By Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres
Located in London, GB
This Sevres style porcelain vase is beautifully painted with an image of Napoleon I on horseback. In this painting, Napoleon visits his men, some of whom are wounded, in what appears to be a military camp. He is seen, leading a group of mounted soldiers, on a white horse, respectfully doffing his bicorne hat to his troops. The painting is signed ‘F. Amblet’. This oval painting is given an elaborate gilded decorative border, reminiscent of a giltwood frame. These beautiful gold foliate patterns continue onto the base of the vase, as well as the top, where we see a pair of griffins.
The vase is fitted with two handles, cast as double French imperial eagle heads, which spring from classical female masks, each wearing with winged helmets. ‘M.re IMPle de Sevres’ is painted its base.
This antique Napoleonic vase...
